Acerca de esta escucha
“Inspiring, refreshing and practical—a delightfully lucid guide to healing yourself.”–Bessel van der Kolk, MD., New York Times bestselling author of The Body Keeps the Score
From two mind-body practitioners comes the new essential self-healing bible—a revolutionary body-first guide to reducing stress, resolving long-term pain, and healing from trauma for good using your body’s own nervous system.
Your autonomic nervous system is responsible for the constant but mostly subconscious communication between your brain and body. When you experience stress, anxiety, or trauma, your nervous system formulates responses to keep you alive. But you can also become trapped in survival mode if you’re consistently exposed to unsafe environments, toxic relationships, or destructive thought patterns. When this happens it’s known as nervous system dysregulation or sensitization, which can result in chronic mental and physical pain and confusion, leaving you unable to cope with life’s strains and stresses.
Mind-body practitioners Jen Mann and Karden Rabin, co-founders of the Chronic Fatigue School, now provide the first in-depth look at nervous system regulation, somatic therapy, Polyvagal theory, the vagus nerve, and the mind-body connection. Combining science-backed insights and hands-on techniques, The Secret Language of the Body teaches you how to move out of survival mode, regulate your nervous system, and heal your mind and body. Rabin and Mann don’t teach stress management, but something far more powerful–how to control your body’s nervous system. With this revolutionary book, you will learn to skillfully speak the language of your body and train it to not only manage stress but achieve personal transformation.

For a long time, scientists have wondered how life has emerged from inanimate chemistry, and whether Earth is the only place where it exists. Charles Darwin speculated about life on Earth beginning in a warm little pond. Some of his contemporaries believed that life existed on Mars. It once seemed inevitable that the truth would be known by now. It is not. For more than a century, the origins and extent of life have remained shrouded in mystery. But, as Mario Livio and Jack Szostak reveal in Is Earth Exceptional?, the veil is finally lifting.

So she did: She got into an elite private school by talking to a stranger in her dad’s cab, she strategized her way onto Wheel of Fortune to pay for college, she adopted three girls after meeting their mother panhandling, she quit her job to launch her own business, and she struggled.

Historia
Frederick Fife was born with an extra helping of kindness in his heart. If he borrowed your car, he’d return it washed with a full tank of gas. The problem is there’s nobody left in Fred’s life to borrow from. At eighty-two, he’s desperately lonely, broke, and on the brink of homelessness. But Fred’s luck changes when, in a bizarre case of mistaken identity, he takes the place of grumpy Bernard Greer at the local nursing home. Now he has warm meals in his belly and a roof over his head—as long as his poker face is in better shape than his prostate and that his look-alike never turns up.

Whether we like it or not, lots of things change as we age: our joints start to creak, our muscles weaken, and we lose coordination. Our bodies simply don’t look or perform the same each decade of life, and our risks for various diseases and medical conditions also increase as the years do. Getting old may be inevitable, but feeling old is not: we can age well and maximize each decade of life if we do the right things at the right time.

She played barefoot in the forest until she was a teenager and left to study with an evangelical missionary group in the city. But after Nemonte’s ancestors began appearing in her dreams, pleading with her to return and embrace her own culture, she listened. Nemonte returned to the forest and traditional ways of life and became one of the most forceful voices in climate change activism.

Historia
When NASA sent astronauts to the moon in the 1960s and 1970s the agency excluded women from the corps, arguing that only military test pilots—made up exclusively of men—had the right stuff. It was an era in which women were steered away from jobs in science and deemed unqualified for space flight. Eventually, though, NASA recognized its blunder and opened the application process to a wider array of hopefuls, regardless of race or gender. From a candidate pool of 8,000 six elite women were selected in 1978—Sally Ride, Judy Resnik, Anna Fisher, Kathy Sullivan, Shannon Lucid, and Rhea Seddon.

Historia
Brittany Piper spent most of her life sitting across from conventional therapists recalling the painful stories of her trauma. But rehashing each harrowing event—being put into foster care as a baby, losing her brother in a car accident, enduring a brutal rape and a very public trial, and more—made her even more stuck. At a crossroads, she took her recovery into her own hands. On this journey, Brittany discovered emerging science that explains how and why trauma lives in our bodies, not in the story of what happened to us.

When we talk about movement, most of us think "exercise." But the way we move our bodies—how we walk, roll, dance, stretch, connect, and take up space—is about so much more than physical fitness. Our movements impact our mental and emotional health . . . and when we change the way we move, we can change the way we live. Licensed clinical professional counselor and board-certified dance and movement therapist Erica Hornthal takes listeners on a step-by-step journey with a guide that is inclusive, non-prescriptive, and helps us discover the kind of movement that works best for us.

Dysregulation is often referred to as being triggered or upset. Quite often people who are unaware of their dysregulation are angry, explosive, or they might shut down or be overly emotional. Dysregulation can be exaggerated by difficult past experiences - especially in childhood. It is also useful to understand that dysregulation is the CORRECT expression of a properly functioning nervous system - everyone can become dysregulated at times.

Historia
This book updates clinical guidance and theory for Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), an approach that gives patients corrective emotional and relational experiences that mobilize changes in the brain. Practitioners of AEDP understand psychopathology as a byproduct of internal working models, borne out of insecure attachment experiences, that now thwart adaptive functioning in adulthood. The goal of AEDP is to be therapeutically present with patients and their pain and to guide them to have a new experience—a good experience—thus rewiring memory and capacity to reflect.

Historia
Have you wondered why some 60-year-olds look and feel like 40-year-olds and why some 40-year-olds look and feel like 60-year-olds? While many factors contribute to aging and illness, Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn discovered a biological indicator called telomerase, the enzyme that replenishes telomeres, which protect our genetic heritage. Dr. Blackburn and Dr. Elissa Epel's research shows that the length and health of one's telomeres are a biological underpinning of the long-hypothesized mind-body connection.

The cells in our bodies are not independent units. They do not control their own feeding, elimination, migration, or reproduction; they are controlled by signals from the extracellular matrix (ECM) that surrounds them. This all-encompassing inner ocean unifies all our cells and controls them in a coordinated and integrated fashion. Revealing the stunning implications of the extracellular matrix, Matthew Wood shows how it clearly explains the actions and efficacy of holistic therapies.

look up how they are pronounced. John Grinder, co-founder of NLP, his name is
not pronounced Grinder like a pepper grinder, like the author pronounced it,
But GRINder … the first syllable pronounced like “grin” like a smile ...
The book is a good compilation of a number of sources studying consciousness, with some well formulated exercises and somatic concepts culled from those sources. A Very good 'introduction' ... but I'd strongly suggest buying the hard-copy book, rather than this audio rendition. I typically avoid books "read by the author" and this one is the example that proves the rule... in my opinion, of course ...
The authors desperately needed a good audio editor … they read like middle school camp activities directors

The book focuses on listening to your body and uses the acronym BASE-M to do this. In BASE-M, the M stands for the mind and focuses on understanding your thoughts and how they relate to your body's signals.
BASE stands for Breath, Action, Sensation, and Emotion.
Take notice of your breathing - is it relaxed or strained? Too fast? Holding your breath?
Action - what is your body and your mind doing?
Sensation - are any muscles tight? Any pain (stomach, headache, other aches or pains)? Tingling?
Emotion - what is your emotional state?
The key is to LISTEN. Don't jump to thinking about the 'why' as this will shutdown the discovery process. You need to fully investigate the symptoms first so you can deal with them.
Then focus on the 'how' - what were you thinking or what was happening that were the triggers to your body having a reaction?
Only after exploring your body's physical and emotional reactions and the possible triggers should you start to think about the 'why'. This is where you investigate the root causes to get to real healing. To me, this step needs a professional to provide their experience and guidance. People often have traumatic experiences as children or years earlier in their life which manifest in how the body handles stress or triggers, but unless someone knowledgable can lead you through that investigation and healing process it may be very difficult to do this yourself.
Good info; real healing may need professional help
