About this listen

The pen is mightier than the sword. The brush beats both.

Imagine having the ability to paint any world you like...and then walk inside it.

With a moneygrubbing father and obnoxious mother, young Jack hasn’t had an easy childhood. But when he’s invited to compete in a painting contest hosted by the legendary Dante De Luca, his life becomes remarkable. With Dante’s mindboggling training, Jack learns to create sensational worlds, like a god.

After eight years of apprenticeship, tragedy strikes, and Jack is left plummeting toward an emotional abyss. To reunite with his beloved mentor, Dante, he must conquer a savage world ruled by the ruthless Archduke Oakenfol and his rebellious daughter, Annabelle.

A world brimming with backstabbing, blades, and teeth.

A world Jack may not survive.

A world he created.

The Painter's Apprentice is a riot of color, painted in love, hate, and blood. Suitable for listeners 12+.

Great sequel

The story is still very interesting and a bit darker than the first book. I'm really enjoying this fantasy series and the narrator does a great job.

Great story, great narration!

The Painter’s Apprentice is a wonderful tale about a boy who is given an opportunity of a lifetime to become an apprentice to a painter, who wields magic with brushes and paint. The main character, Jack, must face challenges life throws his way, both in the world he lives in and the worlds he paints. This was a great coming of age story that deals with broken families, grief, and above all, love.

one of my new favorites! such great harry potter vibes. (but without the bigotry.) love the concept so much of being able to paint and escape into a fantasy world!

Fantastic story!

Alexander Small’s debut YA fantasy is amazing! It has everything you need, it was emotional, it was gritty, but most of all, it was magical! Alexander paints a vibrant, unique story full of description that makes the reader feel they are standing next to Jack the whole time. If you are a fan of Harry Potter or The Narnia Chronicles, you need to read this! Absolutely phenomenal and cannot wait for book 2!

A Fast Paced, Exciting Story

Narration is good and the story is even better. A solid YA fantasy story from a talented writer, like Harry Potter if the character's wands were paint brushes. Highly recommend!
