An Amazing Follow Up to the Expanse Novels

The perfect mix of a mystery, horror and science fiction grabbed my attention immediately. James S A Corey will truly be remembered as modern classical SF!

Cerebral in a good way.

This was rich, immersive, and wonderfully written. The voice acting was superb. The pacing was stressful, but only to the degree that it pushed me eagerly forward searching for relief. I felt that the technical aspects were written in a way that allowed me to understand the concepts despite not understanding the specifics. It was well balanced in that it kept me interested even when describing the science as it didn't feel overdone. I loved how fallible and real the characters were. Even minor characters had depth and personality. The plot was pretty mind bendy.

My only disappointment is that just when hope bloomed, the story ended and the mystery that had been dropped in our laps at the beginning was never solved. This is obviously the first in a series and I'm already looking forward to the next installment, but what the heck?! At least solve the mystery that has ZERO affect on the rest of the story. Was it a dropped thread? Did they think we would forget or not care after the big, terrifying event that changed everything?! Is there going to be a weird "oh btw remember that opening mystery? yeah here's what happened"?! I mean, sure, not knowing is maybe part of the magic of being drawn into the story. We're seeing this from the character's perspective after all and that kind of thing holds no importance to them. They have FAR bigger problems. Not to mention there's potentially no way for them to uncover what happened anyway. It sure does bug me, though,

Stay with it! It’s worth the effort.

This is a powerful book. It’s a whole new universe out there and it may take you awhile to adjust to it. Stay the course. You will be rewarded.
This series is going to be one hell of ride. I can’t wait to read the next book!

Very good performance

The multiple points of view were hard to follow at first but I liked it

A Good Appetizer for a Big Meal

This is a SLOW burn of a book. No spoilers, but there is very little space travel, not much combat, and zero swashbuckling escapism a-la ‘The Expanse’.
The book did keep me interested and there’s a payoff about 80% into the story that’s well worth the ride. The character development is excellent and plot makes sense, but does not move quickly.
If this book tells me anything, it’s that the boys behind the pseudonym have a very large and exciting space opera in store for their readers. It’s just not very operatic quite yet.

Great world building for a new series

I like that the pace of this story has spent some time in developing it's characters, psychology and universe. I hope to see many more books in this series and this sets it up nicely. love Jefferson Mays performance as usual. He is a really good fit for the complexity and nuance of James Sa Corey storylines.

Fantastic!

It’s all so amazing. The character development and world building are amazing. The store unfolds in an unexpected way with next level writing and narration. Can’t wait for the next one!

Waiting for the next book already !

As always the authors don’t disappoint. I missed the tone, detail and world building. The tone reminds me of the expanse but the story is gearing up to be much more complex with direct alien contact. Highly recommend if you are a fan of sci fi

It’s so helpful to read the names

I loved this and have a few theories about what it all means and how it works, but after a couple hours I realized I couldn’t keep track of the characters bc many of the names aren’t easy to understand- I googled the list of characters and it helped so much! That would not have been an issue if I had just read it instead but Jefferson Mays is my favorite.
