About this listen

An astronaut’s interstellar mission is a personal journey of a thousand second chances in an exhilarating short story by James S. A. Corey, the New York Times bestselling author of The Expanse series.

Roy Court and his crew are taking the trip of a lifetime—several lifetimes in fact—duplicated and dispatched across the galaxies searching for Earthlike planets. Many possibilities for the future. Yet for Roy, no matter how many of him there are, there’s still just one painful, unchangeable past. In what world can a broken relationship be reborn? The universe is so vast, there’s always room for hope.

James S. A. Corey’s How It Unfolds is part of The Far Reaches, a collection of science-fiction stories that stretch the imagination and open the heart. They can be read or listened to in one sitting.

Sci-fi Romance

A sci-fi romance with clones and long distance space travel. I wish it was a little bit longer but otherwise I liked it.

James S A Corey hits another one out of the park

I’m a big fan of the Expanse, this is the first I’ve read outside that, and it was great.

Awesome short story.

Some of sci fi’s most important and thought provoking tales have been told as short stories. This is one such gem.

Cool concept but not a fan

Cool concept but not a fan.. I did not fully understand the scientific part of the sci-fi story since it probably wasn't the focus of the story, but the more personal aspect, but I didn't vibe with it in general

Awesome idea with endless possibilities

I hope this one never ends! No idea how the science works but the premise of the story is fascinating.

Nice short

Nice short, though there’s certainly enough world here to build a novel or a series, with lots of choices on how to focus. Very nice.

Brilliant ending

I wasn't sure where this story was going when it began, but it's a short read and the ending is just so brilliantly crafted. Very much worth your time.

Unique

How refreshing, different, and thought-provoking. This is a different genre than I normally read, and I was thoroughly captivated the entire journey. I couldn't help but think of when I was a kid and visited Tomorrowland in Disneyland, marveling over all the outlandish futuristic things on display. Only all those things then have happened and are ancient, and other even more mind-boggling accomplishments have taken their place. Reading this book makes me think, "Absolutely no way!" Then, I start thinking about Tomorrowland... hmmm... 🤔
