Women rule the world in this suspenseful love story set in a post-nuclear future. Having expelled men from their vast walled cities to a lower-class wilderness, the women in this futuristic universe dictate policy and chart the future through control of scientific and technological advances. Among their laws are the rules for reproductive engagement, an act now viewed as a means of procreation rather than an act of love.

When 16-year-old Amanda Verner's family decides to move from their small mountain cabin to the vast prairie, she hopes it is her chance for a fresh start. She can leave behind the memory of the past winter; of her sickly ma giving birth to a baby sister who cries endlessly; of the terrifying visions she saw as her sanity began to slip, the victim of cabin fever; and, most of all, of the boy she has been secretly meeting with as a distraction from her pain. Story
Leading a small army of slaves, Nat Turner was a man born with a mission: to set the captives free. When words failed, he ignited an uprising that left over 50 whites dead. In the predawn hours of August 22, 1831, Nat Turner stormed into history with a Bible in one hand, brandishing a sword in the other. His rebellion shined a spotlight on slavery and the state of Virginia and divided a nation's trust. Turner himself became a lightning rod for abolitionists like Harriet Beecher Stowe and a terror and secret shame for slave owners.

Scottish-American Tale
First of all, the beautiful accent of the narrator made me want to listen non-stop. Then the vividly drawn characters with their depth and passion, and the intricately spun story pulled me deeper and deeper until I felt as though I were the one standing on Dead Man's Mountain. Francine Rivers did not leave any stone unturned as she sorted through the history of violence plaguing Caddy's people. The beauty of the gospel shines like a beacon through it all. Recommended for anyone with a taste for history, Scotland, or a dose of truth.

In the end I actually enjoyed it
At first I had a hard time getting into his book and following all the characters and understanding what was happening and so almost gave up listening but I’m glad I stayed I stayed with it because the story really opened up and started making sense and in the end was a great story of redemption. Very sad to know that something like this actually existed in history.

Caught up in the story
Even though I had read this book a few years ago, I had enjoyed it so very much then, I decided it was worth a listen. I'm so glad I did, I was quite caught up all over again in the story. That narrator puts you right there in the mountain community of many years back, vivid descriptions of the mountains, the people in the story came to life for me.

One of my new favorite books
I had read this many years ago and suggested it to the women's bookclub at my church. I didn't remember many of the details and struggled with the beginning. By the second half of the book, I couldn't read without tears in my eyes. Such a beautiful and amazing book about the love of our Savior. I highly recommend this one.

Awsome Book
What did you love best about The Last Sin Eater?
I loved the entire book.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character has to be the imaginary friend, Lilly Beth, or was she imaginary? Every time she showed up something happen. It made me think of that small voice we often listen to in our hearts.
Have you listened to any of Kate Forbes’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is the first book of Kate Forbee's narration that i have listened to. She is a very clear speaker and easy to listen to.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was moved to tears when Caddie confessed her sin to the man of God and told of Ellen's death.
Any additional comments?
This is a wonderful story about God's forgiveness.
