WOW!!! Fantastic Book

Fantastic book, shocking ending.. Peter Clines did a great job with this book... its ending was shocking, never thought that this book would be like this... Loved it. At the start of the book I had a feeling that things are familiar but didn't think much about it. But the ending of the book was jaw dropping.. I wonder what Peter Clines will bring next.

Ray Porter, as always, did a great job with his narration. Always good...

Started off promising

The beginning of the novel offered a mystery but half way through the story evolved to the absurd. The characters lost credibility and the mystery .

Buy it Now

Buy it now but only if you have the time to listen to it straight through. It is really hard to put it down. After The Martian, the second best book out of many that I have listened to in the past year. Look no further, this is the book you want.

Very similar to previous book 14

I enjoyed the author's earlier book, 14, so purchased this one. Both have a unique theme but both are very similar. They involve travelling to author dimensions/space times, and only differ slightly only by the way people are transported. One is an apartment and the other is via a top secret DARPA project. The place people wind up are almost identical, but I won't give it away. The ending of both books are also almost identical with need to "close" the "gateway"

The main character has total recall so he can remember everything that he has seen in the past. It is instrumental in the plot and makes the book more interesting.

So in summary, If you liked 14, then you will like this, but be slightly bored by all the similarities. If you haven't read 14 I would pick that one and then skip The Fold

Narration is superb

This novel is basically a re-do of the author’s first novel, “14”. Different sci-fi premises but basically the same idea about the alternate reality, especially bats (or whatever) the size of aircraft carriers, etc. At the end of this novel, he sets up to continue another novel with the same theme.

Wow. Holy cow. Whip-crack-kapow.

The cover to this book caught my eye a few months ago and I thought, "where have I heard of Peter Clines before?" Then I realized, "Oh yeah. He's the guy that wrote the crazy apartment book!" By this I mean '14' which is a book I listened to nearly a year ago and haven't forgotten. It was a really cool and original story. So, I pre-ordered The Fold.

The Fold is a nearly perfect science fiction novel. I was transfixed to this story. I hated having to stop listening even for a little while. I wanted to finish it all in one sitting, and when it was over I wanted more.

The characters slowly come alive and over the course of the book you'll gradually fall in love with them. This is partly due to the writing style and partly to do with Ray Porter's outstanding performance. Not much needs to be said about Mr. Porter, because if you're an audio book fan you'll know he's one of the best.

This is a stand alone novel, but there are connections to the book ’14'. (Those crazy green cockroaches!) It doesn't matter which one you listen to first, but I'll guarantee that if you listen to one you'll want to hear the other. Plus, there's a scene at the end of this one that strongly suggests there'll be a third book that combines the two story lines.

So, if you A) like sci-fi, and B) want to hear something a little different, and C) you're a big fat nerdy nerd like me... then this is a book for you.

Interesting beginning and story line, but then about 2/3s through it gets really hokey! Too bad the author didn't stick to a more believable twist.

Could have been better

Story was interesting. Read like the book wasn't finished when he started, but in fact developed as he was writing - so the story became odd. The constant use of the F word also diminished my enjoyment of the book.

Turn off your brain, pseudo science fiction ahead!

Starts out as a compelling mysterious adventure in what initially feels like "hard-science-fiction", but eventually hits a point where it strays completely away from hard science and the author makes all the usual mistakes (or rather allowances) made by most stories in this genre with no regard to chaos theory and the obvious implications to small initial changes in an isolated system. That said, if you go into the story knowing that at a point you will need to turn your brain off and excuse the super massive science plot holes then I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Held my attention

Great book. I was spellbound until the beginning of the climax, where it strayed pretty far afield for several chapters. However, the story was redeemed in the final few chapters.
