About this listen

“Absolutely brilliant!” (Jonathan Maberry, New York Times best-selling author)

The new supernatural thriller from New York Times best-selling author Peter Clines

You can still owe the dead.

Hector was the best of the best. A government operative who could bring armies to a halt and nations to their knees. But when his own country betrayed him, he dropped off the grid and picked up the first of many bottles.

Natalie can’t remember much of her life before her family brought her to the US, but she remembers the cages. And getting taken away to the Project with dozens of other young children to become part of their nightmarish experiments. That’s how she ended up with the ghost of a dead secret agent stuck in her head.

And Hector owes Natalie’s ghost a big favor.

Now Hector and Natalie are on the run from an army of killers sent to retrieve her. Because the people behind the Project are willing to risk almost anything to get Natalie back and complete their experiments.

I don't understand why this wasn't considered part of the threshold series. it fits really well and could be a nice side but away from the main "cast" similar to "dead moon"

Threshold .5

Hell, I just liked it! The way the characters are developed and the action is constructed really works

Good, easy fascinating read

If you haven’t read anything by Peter Clines before, this is a great start. Beautiful introduction into his weird wonderful universe. Suspense drives the plot and the performance is excellent. It’s a fun experience and tough to put down. It would be an especially good choice for a road trip.

Another great addition to the library

Just a little too much repetition in the creepier scenes. The narrator did not know how to pronounce Sepulveda. Otherwise pretty good.

Not Clines best but ok

Nothing special, just ok time filler if you're bored and it's cheap to buy.

just okay

If you've read 14, or The Fold by Peter Clines, you'll end up recognizing the premise for this book, which is similar but not the exact same. However, it didn't really have that mind-blowing reveal like 14 or The Fold had. It does have good pacing throughout and I thought that the narration more than passable.

I found the depictions of some scenes quite graphic and disgusting. If you have even a hint of emetophobia (extreme fear of vomiting), do NOT listen to The Broken Room.

Overall, it was worth one listen but I won't be coming back for a second listen. I'll stick to the brilliance of my two other favorites mentioned above.

Similar premise to his other books

Years ago I read “14” and marveled at how clever and imaginative it was. I have read it twice more since just for the fun of it. This is like a superhero story by Marvel comics with a few living dead zombies thrown in. All the unbelievable fight scenes got boring. Your a better writer.

A let down

I liked the premise if the story, the wind up, the pitch, etc. As always Clines writes with a good tight style. But the story is just one fighting action scene after another, so much so that it became something of a xhore to finish the book.

Good story, too much action

Another great book by Peter clines but I miss ray porter as narrator. Don’t get me wrong Timothy was good but Ray is just on a whole different level.

Love Peter clines

Was a great book but it was an act of fiction Not the reality of the the actual border situation. I really could've lived without the snide slippery racist comments. white people bad . gets soooi old!

Very harsh political opinion
