About this listen

What happens when cultivation meets mad science?

Lu Jie woke up in a world filled with scheming sects, arrogant young masters, and the mad chase for the immortal heavens. He wanted none of it, and soon finds himself beaten bloody in a spar he didn't remember and treated as less than worthless.

But his plan to escape the sect is interrupted by an old Alchemist's pills that heal him within moments—a magical cure.

These medicines ignite the flame of curiosity to learn true magic in him, rekindling his love of discovery. Lu Jie sets out to study the immutable truths hidden within the world, and soon finds an all new path of cultivation that could take him to the very top.

Time to make some drugs... err... "alchemy pills".

Don't miss the start of an epic Xianxia Cultivation Series perfect for fans of Beware of Chicken and Cradle. The series features weak-to-strong power progression, a light scientific approach to magic, tons of alchemy, spirit beast companions, and so much more.

Better than most

Over all a pleasant read. There were some elements that I didn't care for and the constant pokeman nods was distracting at best.

Some striking similarities to Cradle…

I just finished the Cradle saga by Will Wight and gave this title a shot as something to move on from it. Am stunned with the similarities between this title and Cradle but still a unique presentation of ideas and concepts. The author paints a vivid picture of the world with his words and has created characters within that not only are relatable but pull the reader in. I’m excited to see what the author has in store with book 2.

A better then most isekai/cultivation series

This isn’t your typical power fantasy. The characters are more 3 dimensional and even the troupes and references are heavy on the ground but still less lazy than most in this genre. This one looks forward to walking the path of science in future novels in this series.

very good

I like the book, but why does book 3 release a month before book 2? that seems a bit backwards.

Unexpectedly Awesome

While I found myself worrying that it would devolve into harem, it never actually does (at least in this first novel which is all I have read so far). Instead, we get a fun action adventure Xinxia cultivation litrpg without any sleeze to ruin it.

The only downside for me was that I was so annoyed when the pretty boy character had the same reveal that I expect in every story that introduces a pretty boy character. Actual pretty boys exist, you know. Why aren't they in any novels? I weighed 120 pounds while being 5'9" when I was a young adult, but I never see myself in novels. Also, I don't like little kid characters like Labby who are written to have "adorable" bad speaking skills or when pet creatures constantly repeat a word like Pokemon. Though "squirt" was a lot more phonetically pleasing than "chi!"

The narrator's slow read speed always needs a large correction and this leads to the listening experience not being as smooth, but I still like him as he does voices and performances well.

Science!

I love the slowly growing menagerie of animal sidekicks and his efforts to properly quantify production methods instead of "put in pot, pray pills come out" as he works to become powerful though the power of being a drug kingpin

An enjoyable light story

It was an enjoyable for me, with nice characters and a very good performance from the narrator.
Unfortunately it requires the reader to be familiar with cultivation tropes to be able to enjoy it fully.
I can't wait for the next book.
