Story
On still nights, when the curve of a winter moon is smudged in the flow of the River Quaggy, the dead clamor for him. And sometimes he coaxes the living to join them. To other people, his victims might be mere medical oddities. To him, they are fascinating specimens, worthy of display. Above all, he is a collector, eager for recognition even as he hides in the shadows. Detective Sergeant Etta Fitzroy is the first to recognize the connection between the disappearance of a young girl and a cold case that almost cost her the career she's sacrificed so much for.

Publisher's summary
For Sale: Lovely family home, ready for your updates. Friendly neighborhood setting close to park; secluded.
If not for the bodies discovered in the woods behind their new home, Garrick and Olivia Lockwood couldn't have afforded to buy number 25 The Avenue. Soon, these terrible crimes will be solved, they tell themselves, and once Garrick has remodeled, he's confident they'll sell the house for a profit.
But the darkest secrets can reside on quiet, ordinary streets like this - behind the doors of well-kept houses and neighbors' friendly faces. Secrets that can destroy a family, or savagely end a life, and will surface just when they're least expected....

Twisty thriller
I really enjoyed this book! The beginning can be a little confusing, as it's told from the point of view of multiple characters, but it all ties together nicely in the second half and really takes off. It's a bit gory; not in terms of violence, but there are a lot of graphic descriptions of things - autopsies, the condition of the dead bodies, etc, which I definitely could have done without. Otherwise, a really good whodunit. I also thought the characters were very well developed and complex; even the "bad guy" characters had depth and weren't just straight up evil (with the exception of maybe one). The narrator was enjoyable and did a good job voicing the different characters.
