Great Build up, slightly predictable

I loved the story and the world built around it, but after book one, there’s a couple “laws of the story” that are altered and makes things a little confusing.
Book 3 seemed rushed and not genuine, but you still get build up for the next and Following book after that.
Book one and two was unpredictable, Some parts of the story are kinda predictable, as a reader and rookie writer idk if I think similar to the author and where the story was going to turn. But it is a great story I would recommend for anyone between the ages of 14-25. It’s not a coming of age book, but it is a romantic story with a great world and lots of details.

Loved it!

Loved the storyline! the narrator was pretty good, but some voices were just a miss for me (like Rowan) but over all enjoyed it very much!

At war

I enjoyed listening to this series. Each sibling was unique and I found it interesting that all three human siblings would be mated to dragons. They all had back stories that came together with an epic conclusion. I received a complimentary audio and this review is voluntary.

So close!

This story was SO close to being great! There are a lot of pros and a lot of things I enjoyed the way the situations were written and even resolved. That being said, this is one book that I am left with an empty spot due to questions I feel are incredibly important to the future (post story timeline) and just left me with that bit of a "hollow" feeling.

** SPOILERS AHEAD **

My issues:
- Nothing was ever resolved with the longevity issue. So if the dragons live for hundreds of years, but there wasn't a white dragon to grant the longevity, that just really sucks and wasn't even addressed again after saying, "oops, you killed the one who usually does that, maybe we can find someone else who can help". Never to be brought up again!
- The ending "issue" that 2 of the kings experienced was glossed over. What all did that affect? Was their longevity affected or just the main issue? I need more details so my mind can wrap up the story.

Sorry, trying not to give away too much, but this is really bothering me. I finished this yesterday and am still feeling unsettled with questions not answered. The problem is, if not for the hollow feeling I have due to the little unresolved bits at the end, I would have gladly given this 5 stars.
OK, plus the fact that I HATED her narration for Rowan. I'm sorry, but she didn't even make him just sound like a nerd, but like he was an 8 yr old nerd. HE WAS 17/18!! I get trying to get across that he was a nerd with major anxiety, but I seriously cringed every single time she narrated his voice.

All that being said, I love the storyline, seeing all the relationships come together. Except while I wanted to like Hazel, I really hated some of her choices of action, making me really kind of despise her a little. Especially since I adored Val - he deserved better. But I loved the world created and the different dragon types. Runa was adorable and made you want her in your life just for the pure joy and entertainment.

Loved it ❤️❤️❤️

I absolutely loved this series!! Let me tell you I was so sleep deprived for a week... lol but it was worth it. There were so many edge of your seat moments and lol moments. I also cried a few times but all of that is what kept me listening for hours. All in all I loved it and I want more!!!

Overall, a fun YA listen.

Listening to the Dragon Kings books was a great experience. First of all, Angela Rysk did an excellent job reading the parts through most of the series. I felt like she lost a little bit of stride in The Kings because all the girls sounded really high, but for the most part, she was a great reader. I'd love to listen to another book she's done.

The Dragon Kings series is a fun, romantic fantasy adventure where dragons are real. The dragons are divided into clans or tribes, and each seems to live in a different national park. The idea of the story is quite ingenious, and I really like Loth's writing style. I'm going to shortly go over the pros and cons of each, but forgive me if I get the books mixed up.

Obsidian:
Aspen loves the dragons, and she resents that humans make blanket statements about dragons being dangerous. I love the explanation of the "markings" and how Aspen doesn't trust Sid right away. Aspen and Sid have a great love story, but I also think the cheese comes on a little strong. Having said that, I couldn't put it down. So, you know, win-win. I do have to warn readers that the book talks about rape, and while it was fine for me, it may be too much for other readers.

Aspen:
This was my least favorite of the five, and I think it was because of how much talking was involved. While many other readers enjoyed the trials, I didn't really like them. I felt like everything worked out too perfectly, and even though it was hard for Aspen, we don't get a lot of her own insights when it comes to how the trials went. I did, however, love the addition of Runa.

Valentine:
While I didn't find the love story here easy to believe, I did enjoy Val's character. I find him perfectly naive, friendly, kind, and emotional. Yep, emotional can be a bad thing. Good characters need to be flawed! I think that's what makes him likable. Hazel is also a good character, even though through half the book you just want to slap her awake. I did think her interaction with Theo could have been a lot more intense, especially because of how much she was supposed to have loved him/been infatuated with him.

Skye:
This was by far my favorite of the five books. I love Rowan's character. How genius to write a story about a guy with anxiety! It adds tremendous dimension to him, and I can really appreciate his devotion to Skye. Although I am a little sick of stories involving incredibly handsome and drop-dead gorgeous women (oh yes, that exact phrase is used), I like that Rowan doesn't let his own personal drama stop him from falling in love with someone without giving up hope. He's real about it.

The Kings:
Great ending to the story. I did feel like this book was full of cliche phrases, and I rolled my eyes once when I heard "gazed deeply into her/his eyes" for the third or fourth time, but overall, I really enjoyed the series. And though I can talk about the cheesiness of the story, I can also talk about how easy it was to just listen to the entire thing. Great narrator, and the story is good enough to keep me wanting more, all the way up to the end. I would even enjoy some more in-depth stories about some of the characters.

Overall, I would definitely recommend! If you're in need of a really fun audiobook that will keep you wanting more, try The Dragon Kings series by Kimberly Loth. I truly had an enjoyable time listening to Angela Rysk while cooking and baking (my three favorite things, all at the same time!).
