Great book for new owners

I enjoyed this book overall. I learned a lot about my puppy and it also grounded me in areas that I was struggling with. Don't compare your dogs diet to other breeds or anything else people say. This book has allowed me to set my boundaries with people who are coming from a good place but don't understand how high maintenance Shih Tzus really are. This has helped me be a better dog mom and become less anxious about things.

Very basic —if you’ve had any dog before, this book isn’t really worth getting.

Reader couldn’t even pronounce Shih Tzu correctly. Most of the information in this was not specific to the breed.

Too Generic

The dialogue is much too generic and condescending to be considered a complete guide. The book states to research the proper length to trim the Shih Tzu's nails and to research the safe-to-eat foods to feed them. A reasonable person would think the "complete guide" should state the guidelines, rather than misdirect and tell readers to "research" elsewhere. The book also generalizes the Shih Tzu outright lazy multiple times, and reads like a mass-produced dog book repeated for multiple breeds. expert quotes come from trendy breeders rather than trained veterinarians. Avoid and look for guidance elsewhere unless you want a high level introduction to what dogs are.
