Our new puppy will join us in 3 weeks. How to Raise the Perfect Dog exceeded our expectations. We feel very equipped with bringing this puppy into our home. Cesar stressed for us that we are the ones who need the initial training so that, as a family, we can then successfully train our new pup.

Let me say right off that this is not a simple "how to" guide. This is a window into understanding how a dog thinks. I've read other dog training books including "For the Love of a Dog" and this struck the hardest. I say this because it doesn't give you a set method. This is a book on teaching and like teaching children or adults even, every individual is different and requires a different approach. What this book gives you is a deeper understanding of how dogs thinks and from there you can and should develop your own approach. Cesar is lucky in knowing to choose mid-energy dogs, but the tools provided in this book is also perfectly applicable with higher energy dogs. The only difference is that it may take a tad bit more time with higher energy pus or dogs. Don't be discouraged. The energy thing really does work by the way.

It is always a joy to learn more about dogs.

A must read (or listen)for all dog owners

You will not just learn about all the steps to become a better owner or pack leader with this but. You will enjoy to be part of the evolution of all dogs Cesar has used to prepare this book.
I loved it all and not just recommend but will have my wife and daughters reading it to be better prepared for our next puppy.

Cesar is so knowledgeable about dogs, I really enjoyed everything I learned. I’m getting a dog in a few months and with having this book in my arsenal I feel a little more ready. Performance was great, 10/10 would recommend.

Wish I had listened to this before I got my puppy

Wish I had gotten this prior to letting my grandkids pick out my puppy and before my puppy turned 5 months old. Well worth listening to multiple times and share with other people

Neutering of dogs

As a big fan of Cesar Milan, I fully agree and I learned a lot what he says in the book except in the chapter about dog neutering. He did not mention that neutering of medium and particularly large dogs at early stage (less than 1 and 2 years of age, respectively) has a detrimental consequences on dogs’ skeletons and leg injuries. This chapter is probably outdated and requires to be updated. For reference see the research article “Assisting Decision-Making on Age of Neutering for 35 Breeds of Dogs: Associated Join Disorders, Cancers, and Urinary Incontinence” by Benjamin L. Hart et al., Frontiers in Veterinary Science, July 2020, Vol. 7, Article 388.
In the past, I had 2 GSD and both were neutered between 4 and 6 months of age and both had severe issues with their legs and tendons. Very expensive medical treatments!
Please, update this part in the book.

Loved listening and learning about dogs and their behavior, even though my dogs are full grown I have started to implement a lot of the training techniques described in this book, and seeing results!!
Thanks for all the hard work and time put into this book! If I ever get a young puppy again I will definitely be coming back to this!
