About this listen

Fans of Adam Gidwitz and Neil Gaiman will love this middle-grade adventure about two boys, a mysterious, old book with some dark secrets, and a horde of angry demons. Nothing could go wrong, right? When Walter Prairie is struck dead by a bolt of lightning, he's fast-tracked through the Afterlife Academy and assigned as a Guardian Agent to protect a High-Level Target. Walter's HLT, Charlie Dewdle, isn't the most popular kid in school. He's a bit paranormally obsessed. And he has just found an old book that could be used to open the Gateway for demons to wreak havoc on earth.' Now, it's up to Charlie and Walter to fight an eclectic horde of enemies and protect humankind at all costs. But saving the world isn't so easy. Especially when your protector doesn't know the first thing about the underworld, bullies like Mo Horvath are trying to hunt you down, pretty and popular Melissa Bittner is suddenly talking to you, and your parents think you're going crazy.

This short, fun story engages the imagination of not only middle aged kids, but adults too! The interaction between the two main characters had me laughing all the time. You get a healthy dose of demons, magic, action, paranormal events and plot twists. The narrator did a fantastic job, too! His voices for all the different characters were so entertaining, without being distracting. Very well read. I highly recommend this book!

An Engaging Story!

This is a fun book for kids and adults. It is a light hearted tale of a young boy who has to protect another boy from demons from the underworld. My favorite character is the demon Hoonga. Even though he's a demon who wants to terrorize the world he's only a little scary and he enjoys torturing his fellow demons by making them play human games with him. At just under 6 hours it's a quick listen and the narrator does a great job and makes it fun. I really enjoyed this book, well worth the credit!

Fun and original. I really enjoyed this take on afterlife possibilities and paranormal activity from a middle schooler's perspective. Lots of humor and adventure! My favorite thing was the demons playing games.

A brilliant Middle-Grade novel that captures humor, wit, and non-stop action. First of all, the narrator of the audio book is fantastic. His voice really brings life to the story. This is a unique story where a young boy who dies, goes to the Afterlife Academy. There, he is sent back to earth, to help out another kid who is in need. He realizes he is out of his league, and accidentally ends up inside of the teenage boy. He's trapped, but can communicate with him in his head. They have an epic adventure, and humor follows the whole way through the book. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series!

Afterlife Academy is a great beginning to what I hope will be a much larger story. Fans of Harry Potter will enjoy this book as it has similar qualities. The narration is superb and Mr. Corbett does an excellent job of bringing the individual characters to life through his narration. I highly recommend this book to kids and parents alike!

A great story for young adults!

First let me say that I have also read this book several times. I love the characters in this story. My daughter has read it multiple times as well. We are avid Frank Cole fans, but this is a house favorite!

Walter Prairie dies and finds himself categorized for his job in the afterlife. He asks to be put into the Afterlife Academy and is sent off to meet his human charge. But everything isn't as it seems. Walter finds himself facing many challenges as he protects Charlie.

I love audio books and the narrator for this story had many full characters to portray and he did so with such talent! each character had their own voice, accent and were so clearly distinguishable from one another! I will listen to this one again and again!

If you know someone who loves to read stories with non stop action, this is the book for them!!

I cannot recommend it enough!
