Narration can make or break brilliance

I have served enlisted for eight years and am making the transition to officer. I was hoping for something that will help me shift my leadership paradigm of the one to the other and, based on the book’s summary, I felt this audiobook could be that aide. If my expectations were aptly placed, then the narrator has severely handicapped the author’s intent. While principles being taught in this book are drawn from military experiences, I believe the goal of the author was to change their tone and richness. This is undone by a narrator who reads the text like someone reading a military manual. His performance is unwavering in style page by page, making it impossible to fully feel what the author was intending to teach. Very unfortunate.

ugh

The writer is attempting to be clever but it comes across poorly. The constant reference to "wisdom of the ancients" is mind numbing. The stories and bios lack real impact.

There are many better books on the topic.
