Acerca de esta escucha
Super Agers is a detailed guide to a revolution transforming human longevity. This is a breakthrough moment in the history of human health care. The person making that bold claim is one of the most respected medical researchers in the world, Eric Topol.
Dr. Topol’s unprecedented, evidenced-based guide is about how you and your family and friends can benefit from new treatments coming available at a faster rate than ever. From his unique position as a leader overseeing millions in research funding, Dr. Topol also explains the fundamental reasons—from semaglutides to AI—that we can be confident these breakthroughs will continue. Ninety-five percent of Americans over sixty have at least one chronic disease and almost as many have two. That is the essential problem this revolution is solving. He explains the power of the new approaches to the worst chronic killers—diabetes/obesity, heart disease, cancer, and neurodegeneration—and how treatments can begin long before middle age, and even long after. In thirty years, we will have five times as many people at least one hundred years old and they will be healthier than ever because of the breakthroughs Dr. Topol describes.
The amazing discoveries Topol brings into sharp focus are deeply inspiring about our human potential. We can now realistically see how we can make considerable headway for preventing age-related diseases and may one day be able to slow the body-wide aging process itself.

The midlife crisis is the butt of so many jokes, but this long-derided life stage has an upside. What if we could reframe our thinking about the natural transition of midlife not as a crisis, but as a chrysalis—a time when something profound awakens in us, as we shed our skin, spread our wings, and pollinate our wisdom? In Learning to Love Midlife, Chip Conley offers an alternative narrative to the way we commonly think of our 40s, 50s and 60s. Drawing on the latest social science research, inspiring stories, and timeless wisdom, he reveals 12 reasons why life gets better with age.

'It's thought that between 70 and 90 percent of GP consultations are related to stress.' This has to change. Dr Rangan Chatterjee knows this better than anyone. As a practising GP he's seen firsthand how stress affects his patients and has found simple but effective methods to help them. Now he's on a mission to show that combating stress is easier than you think. He shows how a small change in the way you approach your body-mind relationship's purpose can help you lead a more fulfilled, calmer life.

Tell a stranger that you talk to yourself, and you’re likely to get written off as eccentric. But the truth is that we all have a voice in our head. When we talk to ourselves, we often hope to tap into our inner coach but find our inner critic instead. When we’re facing a tough task, our inner coach can buoy us up: Focus - you can do this. But, just as often, our inner critic sinks us entirely: I’m going to fail. They’ll all laugh at me. What’s the use?

Reseñas de la Crítica
"Super Agers captures the extraordinary potential of today’s biomedical revolution. With breakthroughs like CRISPR genome editing and AI intersecting and accelerating at a remarkable pace, we stand at the threshold of preventing age-related diseases and unlocking new possibilities for longevity. Eric Topol's optimistic and inspiring vision makes this book an essential guide to the future of health."—Jennifer Doudna, Nobel Laureate, CRISPR gene editing co-inventor, and Innovative Genomics Institute founder
"For those looking for simple slogans or short videos to guide them to long life, they will not find it in Dr. Topol's Super Agers! Instead, they will get a detailed, evidence-based and optimistic dose of the truth. The combination of genes, biology, behavior and environment, when subjected to the forces of computation linked to AI, reveal a picture of wondrous complexity of the human condition. The good news is that real progress is being made and that Dr. Topol's gift for expression of complex issues in useful language comes through again."—Robert Califf, former commissioner of the FDA
“Eric Topol is not only a distinguished geneticist, cardiologist, and scientist: he is the most widely read and credible health 'futurist' I know. Super Agers is a highly readable and evidence-based digest of those astonishing advances in medicine, science, and technology that directly affect our lifespans. In its pages is a roadmap for linking your own measurable data with personalized actions and interventions that improve your odds of living longer, and more importantly, doing so in good health. Super Agers is a landmark book."—Abraham Verghese, author of The Covenant of Water

Well, Eric Topol isn't most doctors, and he suggests you entertain the notion of a third kind of medicine, one that will make the evidence-based state-of-the-art stuff look scarcely better than an alchemist trying to animate a homunculus in a jar.

Welcome to the dazzling new world of SuperAging, where everything you’ve been taught about aging is challenged. Getting older does not need to mean the end of accomplishment and growth. For SuperAgers, the period after age sixty-five can be one of the most productive and fulfilling times of life. SuperAging is already a reality for millions. But the science, business, and culture of aging have changed at such a rapid pace that they can be hard to keep up with. That’s where authors David Cravit and Larry Wolf can help.

Everyone knows the feeling after a long day—it is difficult to concentrate, make good decisions, or even empathize with others. This daily but completely natural decline in our mental capacity is called “ego depletion,” a state of mind that miraculously but naturally disappears after a good night's sleep. However, more and more people are waking up in a perpetual state of ego depletion: their mental energy source is not recharging—it is actually shrinking. We live in a chronically exhausted society with disastrous consequences for ourselves, society, and future generations.

Daughter. Duhitár-. Dustr. Dukte. Listen to these English, Sanskrit, Armenian and Lithuanian words, all meaning the same thing, and you hear echoes of one of history’s most unlikely journeys. All four languages—along with hundreds of others, from French and Gaelic, to Persian and Polish—trace their origins to an ancient tongue spoken as the last ice age receded. This language, which we call Proto-Indo-European, was born between Europe and Asia and exploded out of its cradle, fragmenting as it spread east and west.

Brilliant work highlighting the advances of geroscience

I am not sure why, but none of the platforms where I am able to read this book offer any instruction about how to download the PDF file that Dr. Topol is constantly referring to. I will keep trying to find it because it sounds interesting.
About survival
Se ha producido un error. Vuelve a intentarlo dentro de unos minutos.
The book brims with valuable, up-to-the-minute insights, yet prospective readers should be forewarned: Super Agers is no breezy popular science title. Large sections read more like rigorous academic reviews than general-interest prose. Topol marshals hundreds of studies and showers the reader with specialized terminology, technical data, and acronyms, many of which would likely bewilder even the most diligent, college-educated audience. Skimming, rather than savoring, may become a survival strategy for many readers.
Given Topol’s professional roots, it is no surprise that his discussion of cardiovascular disease prevention is among the book’s strongest and clearest contributions. By contrast, the opening to Chapter 6, which addresses cancer, is strikingly disjointed—an odd lapse in an otherwise meticulously constructed narrative.
Among the most revelatory sections is Topol’s exploration of GLP-1 receptor agonists, a class of drugs already famous for their role in diabetes and obesity treatment. Topol convincingly argues that their potential impact extends much further, suggesting they may reshape the landscape of medicine itself. “The impact of GLP-1 drugs in medicine—for improving patient outcomes—will likely be more substantial than any prior class of medications,” he writes, noting their “major triumph” in combining high efficacy with favorable safety profiles. At one point, Topol even speculates that “it is conceivable that most people will be taking one of the GLP-1 drugs in the future.” It’s a bold assertion, but one he supports with considerable evidence.
Topol’s scholarly rigor is reinforced by an exhaustive list of references, although the unconventional note system—linking citations to chapter and page numbers rather than traditional footnotes—and the minuscule font size used for these notes are sure to frustrate anyone wishing to dive deeper without a magnifying glass.
The ultimate question, then, is: for whom was this book written? Despite its glossy cover and broad promises, Super Agers seems best suited to practicing physicians, researchers, and highly motivated lay readers with a tolerance for complexity. Those willing to persevere will be rewarded with a bracing, if at times arduous, journey through the cutting edge of preventive medicine.
Super Agers may not offer an easy path to a longer life, but it is a serious guide for those determined to understand—and perhaps seize—the promise of modern longevity science.
