About this listen

Wilderness guide Crystal Rainey leads a group of college students to a private campground amid the awe-inspiring Olympic Rain Forest. The excursion is ruined when the charming hostess Roxie is discovered standing over the land owner's body, murder weapon in hand. Enlisted to investigate the crime to absolve her friend, Crystal descends on the quiet city of Forks to find loggers, developers, and eco-protesters circling the property, intent on either exploiting or protecting the bastion of old-growth forest. The list of suspects is intimidating. Can Crystal find answers in a community determined to keep her in the dark?

A Fun Read

Spring Upon a Crime is a fast-paced whodunit. The plot gives the reader the opportunity to engage in the same process of deduction as the main character, Crystal, to help figure out the crime. The setting in the Pacific Northwest rainforest draws the imagination in and it's like you're really there. Escape to the great-outdoors from the comfort of curling up with a good book, what better way to spend a weekend?

The Pacific Rainforest

This is the first ML Erdahl book I have listened to or read. It is a standalone mystery.
The mystery is well done, the romance/personal relationships reminded me of high school. I had a tough time believing the main characters were in their late twenties.
I wasn’t sure I liked the female characters, especially Olivia and Suzie. Suzie seems to be the voice of reason until she gets snarky. Crystal needs to grow in the interpersonal relationship area; in this area she is still stuck in high school.
I didn’t read it for the romance so I’ll let it go. I liked the concept of the book and the mystery.
Plenty of small-town stereotypes in this story with twists and turns to make it interesting.

Fun adventure in the PNW

I enjoyed this second book by ML Erdhal. I am an avid hiker and nature lover and have been to the Olympic NP area, so it was great to get sucked into the setting again. Even if you have not read the first book, this story stands as a good stand alone. I listened on audio and it made for an enjoyable listen on my road trip. I love a cozier whodunit and this one did not disappoint. I'd like to see Crystal's character grow even more in the next books, as she becomes more adept with her hiking and sleuthing skills.

A delightful cozy mystery, delightfully narrated

ML Erdahl and narrator Amy Landon bring the Pacific Northwest and the Olympic Peninsula to life in this delightful cozy mystery. Wilderness guide Crystal investigates a murder to clear the name of a friend, and of course lands in trouble, danger, and even in jail. There’s humor, romance, and rain. Looking forward to the next season in this seasonal series.

Pretty good

Spring Upon a Crime is an okay cozy mystery. the pacing is slow and I felt like Crystal spent too much time going in circles. I might get the next book.

Wonderful Cozy Mystery!

Crystal and her friends (especially Suzie and Connor!) really grew on me and it was great fun to explore the Olympic Peninsula with them!! The mystery kept me guessing and the end was very sweet. :)
