Fonkin’ Terrific

A fantastically hilarious, silly, and irreverent read... Quick moving story that will have you laughing on practically every page... I was slightly dubious, but got over that in about a second after I started reading this delightful story... Think Hitchhiker's meets Guardians of the Galaxy and you'll have a pretty good idea of what to expect... If you're looking for something serious, deeply moving, or thought provoking then move along, nothing to see here;). If you want some solid entertainment that amuses while telling an engaging yarn then grab this one fast... You'll thank me... Great characters and great narration only elevates... Some awesome shizz, and is going to be a fantastic space series;)

Great, Fun and Entertaining Book!

Really fun book.

The Tobey Mcguire references where quite good, the narration was amazing. There wasn't a moment I felt the need to stop listening to the book. Don't expect a really deep story because that's not what the book is about, the main focus of this book is to keep it's readers (or listeners) entertained in a wacky and fun adventure. I really enjoyed it and I'm gonna go ahead and buy the second one. Wouldn't mind if it got turned into a movie (It should).

Quirky, fun, and to the point

As the story begins, Barry J. Hutchinson gives guys a story that has a fair approximation of Hitchhikers' quirky fun as he takes us through the development of the main characters, making this one of the more fun character developments that I've experienced.

With the character development done, Mr. Hutchinson dials back the quirkiness, but keeps it floating around in the background for the rest of the book. We get into the meat of an interesting, funny, and surprisingly intriguing story as events unfold with the space team experiencing them and figuring out why they're happening.

I won't say the book is "gripping" or "exciting" though there were a couple of tense moments. But I don't think the book's point was to be those things. Instead, the book is just plain fun.

The story is also straightforward and to the point. The author never bogs the book down with an excess of minutiae, but I don't feel like I was cheated on any detail from the story. There are no excessively long fight scenes or complex emotional knots to distract from the story. The listener gets the story points that are necessary, and then we move on.

As narrator, Phil Thron is pretty much perfect for this book. The narration comes as if it's delivered with a raised eyebrow and a half-smile. And the feel he gives Cal, the main character is that of part used car salesman and part politician but in the end is deeper and more human. He also delivers the rest of the characters in such a way that, coupled with the author's descriptions, painted vivid images in my mind of who they were.

Firefly meets Hitchhiker's Guide

If you're looking for science based stories with respect for the laws of physics and semi plausible futuristic drama.. this is NOT for you.
If, on the other hand, you're looking for a fun filled satirical SPACE story (the caps will make more sense if you listen to the book) that will make you smile while thoroughly entertaining you (and make you want to keep coming back for more) than this is the series for you. I was hooked early on in the first book and am dreading there not being more to listen to after I get to #10.

Sooooo funny. Definitely the funniest book I have read to date. I didn't want to get out of my car at the end of my commute. I actually pulled into a parking lot and sat there and listened for a while a few times til a chapter was over.

I want more.

most fun I have had in sometime. On to the next book in the series.

Audiobook candy and I love it!

I usually buy serious sci-fi but like to discover fun, lighter books once in a while. This was a great pick. I really enjoy the characters and their interactions as they go on ridiculous (or deadly) adventures. I have since downloaded the rest of the series and am looking forward to many hours of entertainment while doing chores and errands. Definitely worth the credits.

Fans of Guardians of the Galaxy

Had me laughing non-stop! From a adaptive profanity filter, a bipolar metal man, and a wacky cast of characters. This had me hooked from start to finish.
