About this listen

What if searching for “the one” is getting in the way of your journey of self-discovery? What if singlehood wasn’t just a stepping stone to marriage?

As a single 20-something in search of answers to these questions, author and entrepreneur Esther Marie leans into self-discovery and finds a life of boundless adventure. Living in the tension of uncertainty about the future, Esther chronicles eight years of her life, including awkward dating stories, solo travels, deconstructed beliefs, refueled faith, a near-death encounter with a bear, and way too many camping trips.

In the end, she makes peace with the mystery of unanswerable questions and finds herself in a story far bigger than she could have ever imagined.

Thought-provoking, hilarious, and relatable, Single Shouldn’t Suck offers a different perspective on singleness than your pastor who met his wife in high school. Esther invites you on a journey to liberating contentment by encouraging you to indulge in the life in front of you and let go of trying to control your story’s ending.

You don’t need to wait for “the one” to start pursuing your purpose. You don’t need to waste your Friday nights feeling alone. Throw tradition to the wind, ditch the cheesy clichés, and start loving the life in front of you, because being single shouldn’t suck!

So inspirational for all ages!

Esther I admire you so much. This book truly inspired me; I have read/listened to it twice. I got so much more the second time so I will definitely listen again. I am
60 yrs young and divorced for 30 years this year. I am waiting on God for a Kingdom husband and this book came at the right time as I hit 30 yr point ugggghhhhh LOL. I am a Christian and keeping pure and in all things I honor Him who died to set me free; my precious Jesus. I love that you studied Theology for 3 years, it truly shows in your teaching/writings. I work at a Bible college and love how Jesus paints the pages of your book as you live counter-culture to honor God. See you Monday on Zoom!!
I pray numbers 6:24-26 over you, Cody and your family!! 🎚️
besties 4 ever 🌸

Needed encouragement.

I haven’t struggled too much with my singleness —for the most. I’ve loved getting to spend uninterrupted time with family and friends and make new ones. Read books. Try new things. Go back to my youth. But the longing to have a partner is still there.
This book helped me see the value in friendship and the gift I’m getting to know someone even if they aren’t your person. I loved hearing Esther’s story and the way she told it. Definitely going to be reading Blue like jazz and visiting salvation mountain because of this book. This book got me through two breakups. So grateful. Definitely recommend.

best. book. ever.

Esther writes the most life and perspective changing book of my time. I gleaned sm from her and I am endlessly grateful for her wisdom. As someone who has struggled in my single season recently, this was the perfect pick me up book I could probably find on here. I cried and laughed as I read through the pages, and hit with conviction and revelation. I need this sm. Thank you God for her and her writing. I can't wait to read more from this author :)

Relatable & authentic

Esther did a great job with telling her authentic and true story because so many of us are living almost the same lives, but she verbalized everything perfectly.

DID NOT WANT IT TO END!

This book is liberating!

It felt like I had an older sister whisper a bunch of nuggets of wisdom in my ear. I replayed so many parts so that I could make notes, and boy did I make notes… There is so much value in this book and I cannot recommend it enough.

Esther Marie was also excellent at narrating her book. I burst out into laughter many times, shed a few tears and was just completely left in awe.

It may be a bit of cliché to say your singleness is a gift; but this audiobook really puts into perspective how much of a gift it is and how much you can do with. Your life is not on hold because you’re single - your life is meant to be lived, regardless of your relationship status.

SINGLE LADIES SHOULD LISTEN TO THIS!!!

I absolutely loved this book! she did an excellent job reading and writing this story. it's not your typical self help book but instead listening to the story of a woman navigating her single years, learning to enjoy them and letting God guide her. I saw myself and could relate to almost everything she wrote.

Worth the read!

A refreshing perspective on both singleness and pursuing a life of adventure with God! Thank you, Esther! There is such power in narratives and sometimes even more so than “how-to” books.

Good for younger readers in their 20’s

It was a lovely look into a young woman’s life. Unfortunately, as a woman in her 40’s I felt this was geared towards women in their late teens or 20’s.
