About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Charles Martin offers us “grace, mercy, and forgiveness in this sweeping love story" (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

Allie is still recovering from the loss of her family's beloved waterfront restaurant on Florida's Gulf Coast when she loses her second husband to a terrifying highway accident. Devastated and losing hope, she shudders to contemplate the future - until a cherished person from her past returns.

Joseph has been adrift for many years, wounded in both body and spirit and unable to come to terms with the trauma of his Vietnam War experiences. Just as he resolves to abandon his search for peace and live alone at a remote cabin in the Carolina mountains, he discovers a mother and her two small children lost in the forest. A man of character and strength, he instinctively steps in to help them get back to their home in Florida. There he will return to his own hometown - and witness the accident that launches a bittersweet reunion with his childhood sweetheart, Allie.

When Joseph offers to help Allie rebuild her restaurant, it seems the flame may reignite - until a 45-year-old secret from the past begins to emerge, threatening to destroy all hope for their second chance at love.

In Send Down the Rain, Charles Martin proves himself to be a storyteller of great wisdom and compassion who bears witness to the dreams we cherish, the struggles we face, and the courage we must summon when life seems to threaten what we hold most dear.

“Charles Martin understands the power of story and he uses it to alter the souls and lives of both his characters and his readers.” (Patti Callahan Henry, New York Times best-selling author)

Charles Martin never disappoints.

Send down the rain is Charles Martin's latest book and I could not put it down! There are several stories wrapped together that intertwine into a bigger story. Love, betrayal, and forgiveness are the main themes throughout. Just when you think you have it figured out, there is a new twist.
JoJo Brooks is a likeable protagonist who unravels a story 45 years in the making. Definitely worth the read.

It is not earned. It is not deserved

I have listened to all of Charles Martin’s books. This is my favorite. This is ultimately a story of love. Evil can only be defeated by love. Grace, mercy, betrayal, revenge, forgiveness are all interwoven in this Vietnam war and post war saga. Martin paints the picture of the ugly and the beautiful in living colors as he so thoroughly develops the story lines and characters. I even fell in love with the dog. I judge the worth of a book not on the monetary cost but on the cost of my time. Is it worth giving up a portion of my life that I cannot get back? Time well spent here.

The best

Send Down the Rain is captivating. Charles Martin happens to be one of my favorite authors and this masterpiece is my favorite of his so far. I can not even walk you through how much I enjoyed it with out doing you a disservice! He weaved these stories together perfectly. I could not have asked for more.

I liked this

This was a great find for me. At the end the brothers took care of each other. They both gave each other free will. God gives us free will. The choices we make are ultimately up to us. We break his heart continually yet he forgives us and loves us due to grace. This book has hidden meanings in plain sight.

Really long, full of details...

...at times, too many details. The narrator, Adam Verner paced the storytelling well, and did justice to what this was intended...an older adult, recollecting their life.

Many parts to like.

Enjoyed this audio except for the narrator's overly emotional voice tone and descriptions. It was way too much for me. I lost count of all the times that he said, "as a tear rolled down her or his cheek"
The story itself was entertaining and a great listen for my commute to work.
