Publisher's summary

A Wall Street Journal bestseller.

Secrets told in the church ladies' room are supposed to stay in the ladies' room. But that doesn't mean that what Trudy overhears there during her great-aunt Gertrude's funeral won't change the rest of her life.

Trudy has a daughter in the middle of a major rebellion, a two-timing husband who has been cheating for their entire married life, and a mother with Alzheimer's residing in the local nursing home. She doesn't really need a crumbling old house about to fall into nothing but a pile of memories and broken knickknacks.

Billy Lee Tucker, resident oddball in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, lived next door to Gert, and in her will she leaves him the funds to help Trudy remodel the old house. That's fine with Billy Lee, because he's been in love with Trudy since before they started school. And just spending time with her is something he'd never ever allowed himself to dream about.

A beautiful home rises up from the old house on Broadway, and right along with it rises up a relationship. But is Trudy too scarred from what she heard in the ladies' room to see a lovely future with Billy Lee?

Sweet, clean story!

This was a sweet story that will make you feel good to listen to. If you're the shy type about listening to sexy books, you'll be perfectly comfortable with this one. If you're contemplating leaving a cheating husband, this will give you inspiration and hope. ❤️

Entertaining and easy listen

The main character and her story reminded me a little bit of Evelyn Couch ( Kathy Bates) in Fried Green Tomatoes. The Ladies Room is a gentle story of a woman who is jarred into taking aggressive action to rebuild her own life. Just a ride along and fun listen.

Transformation of Trudy and a house - EXCELLENT!!

I haven't enjoyed a book as much as this one in a long time. It caught my attention from the very first as 39 year old Trudy goes to the ladies room during her aunt's funeral. While she is in the stall, she overhears her two cousins laughing about Trudy's husband cheating on her for years. Trudy is stunned but she pulls up her torn support hose and goes back into the funeral as if nothing has happened. Trudy is the only person in the family who misses her aunt. However her aunt's male neighbor, Billy Lee, really is grieving her loss. He and Trudy attend the reading of the will together and find that Trudy has been left her aunt's old worn out house which is filled with junk. The two cousins don't care that Trudy got the house because they don't think it is worth anything and is only fit to be bulldozed to the ground. They did not know the surprise that Trudy experiences from the inheritance. This all happens at the very beginning of the book. It is also the beginning of the transformation of the old house and of Trudy.

I really loved the story and could not stop listening. The reader was excellent and helped make this a wonderful literary experience. I highly recommend this book.

My dad grew up in Tishamingo and it was a great surprise hearing about it in this book. I couldn’t stop listening! I know the places that were mentioned and it brought back great memories.

A fun little read!

After reading the mixed reviews (particularly those who said, in reference to the main character, that no one could be that naive) I was unsure whether to try this book or not. But there were so many positive reviews! I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Laughed out loud several times and thought "you go, girl" a few times too.

A lot of novels ask us to "suspend belief" in order to allow ourselves to get into the story. We all know there is no Harry Potter but that didn't stop millions of us from enjoying the story. And what of the Arkenstone, the evil Pale Orc, the Wise Gandalf and the humble yet brave and resourceful Bilbo Baggins?

If you like clean, stories that bring a smile and a chuckle to you, give yourself permission to enjoy this one. It's a treat :-)

Lovely

this is my 1st time listening to this author. I enjoyed her characters very much. I normally don't listen to anything except mysteries. Got this book in error. Glad I did.
