About this listen

Read by the author.

Sometimes it’s the most unlikely meetings that give us life’s greatest gifts.

1970s, Southern Alabama. Sixty-two-year-old Jeremiah Lewis Taylor, or “Nub,” has spent his whole life listening to those he loves tell him he’s no good—first his ex-wife, now his always-disapproving daughter. Sure, his escapades have made him, along with his cousin and perennial sidekick, Benny, just a smidge too familiar with small-town law enforcement, but he’s never harmed anyone—except perhaps himself.

Nub never meant to change his ways, but when he and fifteen-year-old Waffle House waitress Minnie form an unlikely friendship, he realizes for the first time that there may be some good in him after all. Six-foot-five Minnie has been dealt a full deck of bad luck—her father is a convicted murderer serving a life sentence, her mother is dead and buried, and she has a Grand Ole Opry–worthy singing voice with no place to perform. Oh, and there’s the small fact that she’s unexpectedly pregnant, courtesy of a no-good high-school boy.

Gradually, Nub realizes the gift he’s been given: a second chance to make a difference.

Beloved Southern writer Sean Dietrich, also known as Sean of the South, once again brings people and places to life in this lyrical song-turned-story about found family, second chances, country music, and the poignant power of love and forgiveness.

Good story until the last 4 minutes. Turned it into a “feel-good movie” ending.

I adored this story. This author did such a great job. This was my first but won’t be my last book by him. His narration was perfect. I laughed and cried.

Well written. It was just overall so good.

Southern at its best

After listening to Sean narrate his books, I can’t imagine, just reading them… I would miss out on all the nuances of his pure Southern speak and his fantastic singing! (I despise when readers and actors try to imitate southern accents!) The story itself is so great. Many small details that paint a great picture of the characters and the setting are woven throughout. Twists and turns that are unexpected so the story is never predictable, and I got teary and laughed over & again. The only thing I didn’t like is when it was over! Thank you Sean for this enjoyable story, that parallels your own life! Thank you for always keeping it real!

Spectacularly Southern Saga

I have never listened to this author and am officially hooked. What a wonderful book, story and story teller. I cannot say enough. Looking for more of his books now!.

Wonderful Read!

The fact that the author took liberties with some of his own life experiences and put them into a tongue-in-cheek, sarcastic, hilarious, sweet, heart wrenching, dramatic story such as Kinfolk is a result of many little miracles. KUDO'S to you Mr. Sean (of the South) Dietrich. Job well done!

So relatable for someone born and raised in Western NC. Awakened memories of kinfolk long gone from this world.

Very nostalgic

Once again, Sean Dietrich writes from a deep well of the intimate knowledge of grief and suffering hand in hand with joy and hope. I never imagined another book would come close to “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” which remains in my top 5. We have been given a gift we do not deserve in a man who writes the most beautiful stories. Thank you Mr. Dietrich. Stunningly beautiful story. No one could read his books for Audible except the author - he brings such great love and honesty to the voices of his characters.

Characters … crying then laughing … over and over.
