Publisher's summary

In her first work of contemporary women's fiction, bestselling author Kay Bratt draws on her own life experiences to create a raw, yet inescapably warm, novel about friendship and a wary heart's unexpected capacity to love.

A hungry, stray dog is the last thing Cara Butter needs. Stranded in Georgia with only her backpack and a few dwindling dollars, she already has too much baggage. Like her twin sister, Hana, who has broken Cara's heart one too many times. After a lifetime of family troubles, and bouncing from one foster home to another, Cara decides to leave it all behind and strike out alone - on foot.

Cara sets off to Florida to see the home of her literary hero, Ernest Hemingway, accompanied only by Hemi, the stray dog who proves to be the perfect travel companion. But the harrowing trip takes unexpected turns as strangers become friends who make her question everything, and Cara finds that as the journey unfolds, so does her life - in ways she could never imagine.

Excellent book!

I enjoyed reading/listening to this book. It kept your interest especially as you wanted to find out what had caused Cara to run. “All things with together for good” and that is exactly what Cara’s experiences on the road did.

Heartwarming and Relatable

Wish Me Home by Kay Bratt, narrated by Kate Rudd is a well-written novel in which we can all relate, in one way or another. It's about our journey through life, finding oneself, friendship, and our ability to love - even when we think we cannot. The characters and their situations are real, and even though readers/listeners may not have had the same experiences as they have, I think it's safe to say, we have all experienced the same feelings and emotions that come with the ups and downs that life presents. This is the first book I have read/listened to by Kay Bratt, and I'm so glad I did! The character development was excellent, as was Bratt's ability to draw attention to issues we hear about every day, such as mental illness, depression, adoption, and the foster system.

Kate Rudd's performance was outstanding! I have have heard her narrate other books, and I think she does a phenomenal job. Her voice is pleasing to the ear, in a calming sort of way. I was thoroughly engaged, and I feel she added to my overall listening experience. I plan to hear more from her in the future.

I recommend Wish Me Home by Kay Bratt, narrated by Kate Rudd to those who enjoy Women's Fiction. It is just over 9 hours, which I listened to in a 24-hour period, rather than my norm of a few days. Also, I have to mention that this is not a story about a dog...although they were pleasantly surprised, many of the reviewers on Amazon stated they thought it was. However, the dog in the book, Hemi, makes this story whole, and I'm sure you are going to fall in love with him. I know I did. :-)

Thank you for reading my review. I hope it was helpful.

what a fantastic story and great narration

I really stepped away from my usual "reads" with this one. I kept delaying starting it until it was my only option and I just couldn't stop listening ! the narration is wonderful. the story itself was so well written and my heart ached for Cara, there were a few times I kept thinking ok, now she's found a place and thought that's it... but the writer kept her going on her journey making it a lot more unpredictable in parts. definitely recommend this as an easy listen in the car ( or office hahaha)
