About this listen

With her reputation forever tarnished by a youthful indiscretion, lovely Emily Faringdon is resigned to a life of spinsterhood, until she embarks on an unusual correspondence and finds herself falling head over heels in love. Sensitive, intelligent, and high-minded, her noble pen pal seems to embody everything Emily has ever dreamed of in a man. But Simon Augustus Traherne, the mysterious Earl of Blade, is not at all what he seems.

Driven by dark, smoldering passions and a tragic secret buried deep within his soul, Blade has all of London cowering at his feet, but not Emily...never Emily. For even as she surrenders to his seductive charms, she knows the real reason for his amorous suit. And she knows that she must reach the heart of this golden-eyed dragon before the avenging demons of their entwined pasts destroy the only love she has ever known...

Least favorite Amanda Quick book

I enjoy Amanda Quick books but if this had been my first I would never have read any others. My main objection was probably that there was little to like in the hero. He was very rich and a good fighter. Other than that he was mean to the heroine and nearly everyone else. Also very closed minded and manipulative. The heroine was not bad but not very interesting either. There was also little plot, in my opinion, and it did not really flow well at all. Two people marry for strange and possibly bad reasons, then they deal with difficult family members and others in society.

Wow

Highly recommended. Especially if you like mystery and intrigue. This is classified as a romance but it has such more written in the story. Although I prefer less details in the sex scenes (I just skip thru them) I fell in love with Emily and her romance partner. I won't say more ,don't want to give to much of the story,. I don't read much in the romance genre but Amanda Quick books are not just romances &so worth the time.

Romantic!

I did not know I would like a romance novel until listening to this one! I’m not sure if a man would like it, but I think any woman would. Funny and charming and very romantic. Good plot too.

Amanda Quick is awesome

Amanda Quick is one of my favorite authors in the historical romance genre. She manages to bring the regency alive, as well, successfully portraying the attitudes of the"ton".
Anne Flosnick performs well..effectively portraying the condescending attitude of the men toward women during that era.

Silly and annoying

If I never hear the words transcend, transcendence, and metaphysical plane again, I will live a happy life. The hero in this story is the villain, truly unlikable, and the heroine is intelligent, but idiotic in her actions.

An Unfamiliar Story Line!

I am a Jayne Krentz/Amanda Quick/Jayne Castle devotee "of the first water" bar none. I've tread thru the beginning years to the more affluent times and it's not any particular talent that lets the reader start to identify the different story outlines. They are reworked and sometimes a combination of two or more of the "basics". But, I was honestly surprised with Scandal. It's none of any other storylines that I can tell, even the HEA is different! Oh I wished that Ms. quick would return from the early California days and create a few more Scandals-it's so refreshing and entertaining. The hero is also the bad guy; the heroine is unbelievably naive or so we are led to believe; family is certainly not supportive; and revenge is certainly sought no matter what generation. It's a solid investment of a credit no matter whether a confirmed Quick fan or a fence sitter!
