About this listen

As soon they are released, Amanda Quick’s romances shoot to the top of best seller lists. With over 22 million copies of her books in print, she is one of today’s hottest authors. Set in Regency-era England, Mischief offers a sparkling mixture of wit and intrigue that has become Quick’s trademark.

Beautiful, headstrong Imogen Waterstone has recruited the darkly infamous Earl of Colchester to help her seek revenge for the murder of her best friend. As they set a trap for the villain, Imogen and Colchester fearlessly encounter the threats and dangers that come their way. But they are both unprepared for the dizzying passion sparked by their partnership. Amanda Quick’s light, breezy style captures the sophisticated nuances of the 19th century British social world that surrounds these two unconventional allies. Filled with spirited dialogue delivered by the incomparable talent of narrator Barbara Rosenblat, Mischief is a thoroughly delightful adventure.

Great book

This is a great romance but also has a very intriguing mystery. I love all the Amanda Quick books and this one is one of my favorites. Highly recommended.

Campy story this side of TSTL

The Publisher’s Summary for the book gives the minimum info with a lot of flowery promotion-advertising.
I found Imogen to often be almost Too Stupid To Live, then say something almost profound. It’s what made it possible for me to give this book an ok rating. I couldn’t connect or identify with her character which left only ok entertainment value.
I got a kick out of Lord Colchester arriving at night with no servants and he goes into the first bedroom to sleep - in a sarcophagus. This, along with the maid screaming in the morning felt like the author spent many youthful hours with the 3 Stooges, the Marx Brothers and campy spooky movies that had more laughs than scary parts.
Rosenblat did an ok job with narration.

the narration was superb.

the narrator did all sorts of accents and switched pitch and style and speed to keep with the flow of the book.

Adding a bit of fun

This story is definitely a favorite of mine (as are most of Amanda Quick's books)! Imogen is a feisty and intelligent woman who won't take no for an answer and is determined to find a criminal who has been harassing her. Enter the Earl of Colchester and not only does chaos ensue but laughter, danger, and a bit of love.
Barbara Rosenblat is still such an amazing narrator! She gives the characters depth and fun so you are even more sucked into the story!

Wonderful

This was a random find; I thoroughly enjoyed the tale of Imogen Waterstone, strong, independent women for her times. Then being branded that of a scarlet woman. Enter the Earl of Colchester who sweeps her off her feet. The storyline is interesting and flows well and the masterminds of evil will surprise you. Wonderful, period book. Narration was wonderful you forget how beautiful the spoken word was then.

I Loved the narrator!

Barbara Rosenblat did an excellent job narrating this book. She was able to change her voice for each character. She made the story better and made me stay interested in the book.

I find Amanda Quick's books entertaining even if they do not all fall into my favorites category.

Fun

Pretty silly, but lots of fun. There's a mystery and characters that the narrator has fun giving life to. She's not at the top of her form, but still perfect for this book. I like humorous light romances with a minimum of angst and no explicit sex. There is some bodice ripping but it doesn't take over the book.

Narrator UGH

Bobra Rosen Blatt is my is least favorite narrator. Cannot stand her voice no matter what style of book she is narrating. Ruins the story for me unless I can really get into the story and am blocking her voice out

Just what I needed

I have had a run of boring books that I gave up on and I was kind of getting leary of starting another. But, I love Amanda Quick and I have enjoyed Barbara Rosenblat before so I gave this one a try and I was so relieved that I enjoyed it! It was a little silly at times, but fun. I liked that the relationship between the H&H was steady throughout the story. I much prefer when the couple is working together and the majority of the angst comes from outside sources rather than issues in the relationship.
Barbara Rosenblat takes a minute to get used to as she has a sort of deep throaty voice but she does such a great job both with characters, and the many different ones having their own voice, as well as inflection in the story. Makes it fun and enjoyable.

I got this on sale for $4.20 and it was well worth it. Would I spend a whole credit on it? I don't know because I rarely do spend one credit on one book, I almost always get them on 2/1 sales. However, IF I had gotten this with a whole credit, I would not return it!
