Such a delight 😂💞

This was such a delightful mystery about a curmudgeon and his strong-willed mistress. It had me laughing out loud while hoping for the best.

good story

I really like this story and the narrator was excellent. I didnt find the difference in man vs. woman to be annoying as I do sometimes. just enough spice with story.

Story a little slow, but good mystery.

I am a huge fan of Amanda Quick (AKA Jayne Ann Krentz, Jayne Castle) and have read at least 2/3 of her books (particularly love her Arcane series!) but I put this one on the back burner without finishing it after trying it read by a poor narrator.

I tried again this time because there was a new narrator, and one I usually like (Barbara Rosenblat). But something about this story seems to make narrators sort of slow and a little boring. This isn't a hilarious story, is not one of Quick's better ones, but it isn't bad and definitely doesn't need to be read this way; there are bits of humour that get totally squashed by the reading style.

But if you can't or don't want to read this as a hardcopy or e-book, this is a good alternative.

FYI rigger warning for things discussed, happened off-screen so to speak. I find this subject upsetting but I was ok with it in this story as it had happened long before the story began)

Good storyline and the performance was good too.

This is a classic Amanda Quick novel performed very dramatically. Quick always has strong women
characters in her novels and I enjoy that.

Worth it

Light and easy listening: I have read Amanda's books for years. While I have read this book already it was worth a second reading. Just what I needed.
Overall performance 5. Performance 5 also and the story just what I needed at this time of year. Today being the 12th day of Christmas 2022. Enjoy

Entertaining

Strong independent female lead who is intelligent, compassionate, and able to stand on her own. Storyline has a few twists which do not destroy the plot.

Terrific story, perfect narration.

I loved the story of two people, both slightly dif6from others due to their intelligence, coming together to solve a mystery. Their attraction to each other sizzles, and their verbal banter left me laughing.
The narrator's interpretation was vastly entertaining.

Good read

This was a good story, I like the characters as well as the storyline. Amanda is one of my favorite authors, I have yet to read one of her books and not like it. The narrator however is another case, I have listened to Barbara read other books and have managed through them. For some reason she always sounds like she is sucking on something be it candy or whatever. In this book, she did not but her voice for Masters (the Earl), I couldn't figure it out. He sounded like someone who spent time in the caribbean or abroad and not british like he should have been considering they were in England. I don't get it?! Was it just me?? Overall, a good book and story.

The fiction I need to get me through COVID

Not fluffy- just light and enjoyable. Amanda Quick delivers formulaic, but entertaining stories populated with likeable characters.
