About this listen

In Cascade Springs, New York, Violet Waverly and her grandma, Daisy, are the proprietors of Charming Books, where the power of the written word is positively enchanting.

October in Cascade Springs means tourists are pouring in for the annual Food and Wine Festival, and Daisy hopes to draw those crowds to the store. She asks Violet and the local writing group, the Red Inkers, to give a reading of the works of Edgar Allan Poe on the shop's front porch to entertain the revelers. Everyone eagerly agrees.

Yet their enthusiasm is soon extinguished when Violet discovers one of the writers dead in the shop moments before the event. After the shop magically tells Violet she'll need to rely on Poe's works to solve the murder, she enlists the help of her trusty tuxedo cat, Emerson, and the shop's crow, Faulkner. But they must act fast before someone else's heart beats nevermore.

In Plain Sight

Loved it. Just enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. The animal s and village keep you grounded in the story.

I'm loving this series!

I can't wait to hear the next one. I love mysteries but the humor in Ms Flowers writing is even better.

Great plot with lots of twists and turns

I never saw the ending coming, or who the killer turned out to be until the very last. Most of all, I loved listening as the characters in the town came to life through the great narration. The pictures painted for me were delicious and it was hard to see the book come to an end.

Writers' Club, Magical Bookshop, Cozy Mystery

The second book in the series finds Violet and Grandma Daisy getting ready for the annual Food and Wine festival in Cascade Springs, with the Red Inkers preparing a reading of Edgar Allan Poe. Emerson, the tuxedo cat and Faulkner, the shop's talking crow are up to their same antics and keep the tale interesting. When one of the Red Inkers is found murdered, the entire town is in the middle of the festival and the handsome Chief of Police, David Rainwater begins the investigation. Vying for Violet's attention is also her high school sweetheart, Mayor Nathan Morton, whose family also owns one of the town's wineries. The old birch tree growing in the middle of the bookshop is being cared for by Voilet, who goes regularly to the town's spring to get water for it. The story is charming, just like the name of the bookstore and the murder is solved with Violet's help. Wishing there were more in the series . . .

Fun cozy read

I love the story line in this series. The narrator is ok, and you get used to her . Mystery mixed with humor and friendship in a small town, and maybe a little romance. Clean (language and sex) and a fun easy read for summer or to cozy up on a rainy day.

The Cat and the Crow

The narration was key. I thought Daisey was a hoot. I was wrong about my prediction yet again, lol.
