About this listen

Butler Shay sucks.

He'll tell you that the second you meet him, because as unscrupulous as he is, he's not a liar. He doesn't have time for games or feelings. He's going to go pro one day and that means complete focus on football.

No distractions. No infatuations.

That's the rule.

But there's this girl....

Quality Narration Story Development & Construction

This Novella is an enjoyable 'class act' on many levels - engaging, meaningful, and well-told with depth and emotion and great narration by Matthew E Barry. The values and moral standards are however different to my own and the story was thus jarring on this level. I prefer in short a 'clean' story (minimal bad language and meaningful sex). The fact that I finished and enjoyed the book are however a testament to the quality standards across the board, It takes a lot more quality to draw one into a book outside of one's preferred genres.

A few comments: I cannot envisage any relationship being long-lasting or healthy for any party when based on jealousy, obsession, dependency and control. I prefer to believe that obsession with one's genitals to the level described would need to be overcome before a relationship could be balanced and meaningful. I would have liked more insights into the resolution of these issues between the characters. Of note, I would have liked clarification of what Butler and Brooklyn actually liked about one another aside from burning with obsessive physical desire which while flattering, does not by itself grow into something long-lasting and fulfilling.

Similarly unrealistic is a 19-year-old with strong assumptions about his biological father but did not ask any questions about him or desire to meet him. In addition, while his mother's totally selfish motives were explained, it was a brief and shallow outline that was not consistent with the 'good mother' persona in the rest of the book. More development of this theme would have perhaps resolved this.

Awesome listen!

This narrator brought the story to life. It was like this book was written just so he could perform it. The writing is great and I felt like the author captured a man’s point of view really well.

Interesting enough

I found the mmc talking to his penis really really funny.

World building is sub par and relationship between both main characters doesn’t really develop until maybe the last quarter of the book.
