About this listen

Finding a worthy husband should be simple for three beautiful debutantes in Regency London. But the Somerset sisters have a way of making it delightfully complicated....

Violet Somerset has always preferred a library to a ballroom, but to please her grandmother, she agreed to one London season. With nothing to show for it but heartbreak, she's reconciled to spinsterhood. Until a notorious rogue known as the Devil of Dare requests an introduction to her timid, gentle youngest sister, Hyacinth. Violet will do anything to stop the match - even if it means posing as Hyacinth herself....

Nicholas Balfour, the earl of Dare, is enjoying the life of a rake far too much to take a wife. But he must keep his promise to his grandmother. He'll simply choose the meekest bride he can find, install her at his estate, then carry on as before. Hyacinth sounds perfect - until he discovers her sweet demeanor hides the tongue of a viper and the mind of a bluestocking....

As Violet's ruse threatens to unravel, however, she may find the tables turned. Soon, she may have no choice but to tolerate her handsome fiance - or fall in love with him....

Contains mature themes.

Fall in love!

Violet is smart, daring and headstrong, a perfect heroine. I love when regency novels where the blue stocking falls in love with a rogue. Bradley keeps my attention piqued despite using miscommunication as a means of conflict. Luckily, she does not complicate it much. I do wish, however, the narration lacked the verve of the book’s heroine and of its pace. Reading may be a better choice.

Fun, but too long

Although there were the ubiquitous misunderstandings that drew out the story, the characters were interesting. Violet, the heroine, was multidimensional with “blue stocking” interests and Nic, the hero, was a reforming rake with a heart of gold. The storyline, outcome, and conflicts were predictable - I still enjoyed the characters and the narrator was accomplished and that’s why I recommend the audible book.

Cute but frustrating

I very much liked the build-up to the wedding. It was funny, cleaver with witty banter and unique situations. But once their misunderstanding took place, the fiscord felt forced. It was silly and extremely frustrating that just a proper chat could have resolved all yet it was the one thing they they didn't try. Head scratcher that (lol).

But given the majority of the story and characters were very good, I rated it above average.

Hilarious and Romantic!

Definitely worth the credit! This is the second book in the series and it doesn’t disappoint. A very entertaining listen with so many laugh out loud moments. I thoroughly enjoyed the banter and dynamic between Violet and Nick. Heather Wilds did a fantastic job narrating as usual. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

EXCELLENT

I absolutely love this book. The two main characters are less than perfect with lots of obstacles to overcome all the way to the end, never boring or lacked keeping my attention all the way through! Great job!
