About this listen

Behind the doors of the Clifford Charity School for Wayward Girls there lies a secret society of brilliant, fearless women who are bringing justice to London's most corrupt aristocrats, one nobleman at a time....

Other young ladies might occupy their spare time with drawing or needlework, but Sophia Monmouth spends hers scaling rooftops and shadowing suspicious characters. Her objective: to gain information that will free a friend wrongly accused of murder. She hasn't bargained on being spotted and followed back to the Clifford School by a mysterious earl who holds almost as many secrets as she does.

Tristan Stratford, Lord Gray, earned the nickname the Ghost of Bow Street because no man has ever escaped him. Sophia - all soft curves beneath her disguise - is a unique challenge. Determined to learn the truth about the Clifford School, he joins Sophia in a scheme that leads from Newgate's cells to the pinnacle of power. But when desire is at odds with justice, succumbing to temptation may lead them both into the heart of danger.

Contains mature themes.

I liked the underlying story. The romance felt like a slow burn, but the class differences really irked me.
Also, I wish these explicit sex scenes were labeled in the genre as erotica... I'm definitely not a prude, but a blow by blow of the anatomy definitely detracts from the romantic aspects of a "romance" novel. I mean, seriously, the sex scene is over 25 min in length - no sensuality or mystery - zzzzzzzz, - enough! we got it, and it's not arousing.

I'm not a fan of this narrator, but she is not terrible.

Story was interesting but...

I loved the character development and suspense. The plot was complex enough to sustain a great story. I look forward to listening to the other books in the series, hopefully with the same talented narrator.

Great story

Fantastic

The plot itself was very good. It was a bit slow at times but all the pieces fit together well in the end. I was only upset if the name… not true. Grr

Romance sizzle

My title brings up one point. This is a misplaced book!

I loved the special name he started calling her about halfway through the book - Pixie. So cute. She is described as being small so it is appropriate.

This book is not only a good romance novel but also a murder mystery. Both aspects are well written with great character development. It is very enjoyable to listen to because the narrator is so talented. Very good.

She’s not a virgin so I don’t know why this book is in this Series!

it was interesting. Love scene a little long. And spoiler alert, she wasn't a virgin, which he did not seem to mind, but it is in the title.

I like that it was a murder mystery...

Ok, sue me, but I loved the aspect of a school for girls that teaches them espionage and also the lead character’s climbing skills though it’s fantastical that such a place and person would exist. I liked that the story was interesting, adventurous AND had a pleasing action:angst ratio. In other words, we didn’t have to listen to several chapters of “I’m not good enough,” though there was a bit - just enough.

The tropes were delightful. The way the students of the “Swooning Virgins Society” poked fun at the gothic romances they read while simultaneously enjoying the hell out of them was chef’s kiss. 😘 It was a clever way to set up the series and

Shout out to the narrator Jessica Bright. I’ll be looking for more of her work.

The fun story holds up on a second listen
