About this listen

"Burroughs has lived this story, so his delivery perfectly matches the tone and pacing needed. Focusing on a series of failed relationships, Burroughs lets his voice rise in both tension and tenor as he analyzes the reasons, with help from analysis, that some relationships work and others are doomed by the personal quirks of both people." — AudioFile Magazine

Could not stop listening!

If you could sum up Lust & Wonder in three words, what would they be?

Insightful. Entertaining. Inspiring.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Augusten, of course.

What about Augusten Burroughs’s performance did you like?

I have all of his audiobooks, so I suppose it's the familiarity of his voice. Aside from that, I love when he makes fun of an uptight/tedious person's take on things, like a couple taking an entire dinner party to describe opening a jar of pickles.

How many memoirs can one person write?

Self-indulgent. Vain. Cruel. In the end, boring. I really have liked most of his stuff before.

My second favorite author!

A.B. is like the foil author to Pat Conroy, my favorite author. I CANNOT get enough! 5 stars all around.

Disappointing

I really liked Dry so was excited to try another Burrows. This one was tedious and made me want to shout "if you're so unhappy in this relationship just get out already!" I think there's only so much in one person's life that can be made into memoir. That said, I do like Burrows writing and will likely listen to another!

overall enjoyable

at times its wonderful. and normally books read by the author are best, but sometimes I wondered if it was actually Augusten Burroughs reading. it felt stilted in sections, as if he'd never read what was written. otherwise I enjoyed it and had no problem finishing it.

Never a dull moment....

Absolutely wonderful, ridiculously funny and amazingly heart warming. Every time I've either read or listened to or watched ("Running with Scissors") one of Augusten's memoirs I've always felt a certain "twinship". I can always relate to his insane mind and fantastical . This memoir was excellent! A must listen to or read!!! Thank You for yet another gem of a listen!

Another fantastic voyage

I love Augusten Burroughs. This book is laugh-out-loud funny and beautifully, often brutally, honest. Though my childhood was f*cked up, for entirely different reasons, the shrapnel of those experiences created a remarkably similar emotional Chernobyl to his. He handles it all with the perfect blend of pathos, honesty and humor. This book took me on a ride, which felt both painfully familiar and wonderfully cathartic. Augusten Burroughs is my Spirit Animal.
