About this listen

On his first day as a cashier at Dream Grocers, Daniel imagines that the worst he’ll have to deal with on the job are the occasional grumpy customers and long days on his feet. But in just one week’s time, reality changes entirely as the COVID-19 pandemic creates a frenzied panic throughout Daniel’s home state of Colorado. Now, he’s suddenly being called a hero just for showing up at his job, and he isn’t sure how to feel about that. As the uncertainty and paranoia around the virus spread rapidly, Daniel tries to stay afloat and not let the irate hordes of customers bring him down. He learns more than he ever expected to about humanity’s response to fear, observing most prominently the way that some people look down on the very workers they deem “essential".

Sharon

As a front line worker (deli) myself this hit home and all very true. Masks made everything worse as I am hard of hearing, found myself repeating. We as workers were only doing what we were told. Thank you for letting everyone in on what it was like! I would go home at night crying.

A realistic Historic Fiction from what seems long ago.

Even though I thought this was a true bio, and found everything from the shelf’s emptying, to the policies changing overnight very true

Awesome Book!

As someone who listens to a lot of audiobooks I really enjoyed this one. It is funny and insightful. The different voices that were used for the characters in the book made it even more enjoyable and engaging. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for their next audio book. 5 stars!

Insightful, comedic and accurate

Engaged from the first word. Adam tells the story from the perspective that most of us never hear. Though most of us need to. It will be eye opening for some. Then throw in the added chaos of a global pandemic. Can't wait to hear more from this newly published author.

I hope I’m not a Linda

The realism of this story was a bit jarring. I felt a little like I was eavesdropping on someone’s internal monologue. And it’s all so familiar. Since we, as a world, lived through COVID, I think anyone can relate to what Daniel, the main character, is witnessing all around him.

The story is more than just a revisit of the onset of COVID though. It makes you take a step back and think about how you yourself interact with those around you. Especially those with which you have only a passing acquaintance as a result of life’s more mundane tasks, like grocery shopping.

The narration is good. I don’t normally like “ensemble” style narration, but no one here tries to overdo it. Definitely recommend this quick listen!
