Publisher's summary

A New York Times and USA Today bestseller

From New York Times bestselling author of The Perfect Marriage and You Shouldn’t Have Come Here comes a chilling family thriller about the (sometimes literal) skeletons in the closet.

After their mother passes, three estranged siblings reunite to sort out her estate. Beth, the oldest, never left home. She stayed with her mom, caring for her until the very end. Nicole, the middle child, has been kept at arm’s length due to her ongoing battle with a serious drug addiction. Michael, the youngest, lives out of state and hasn’t been back to their small Wisconsin town since their father ran out on them seven years before.

While going through their parents’ belongings, the siblings stumble upon a collection of home videos and decide to revisit those happier memories. However, the nostalgia is cut short when one of the VHS tapes reveals a night back in 1999 that none of them have any recollection of. On screen, their father appears covered in blood. What follows is a dead body and a pact between their parents to get rid of it, before the video abruptly ends.

Beth, Nicole, and Michael must now decide whether to leave the past in the past or uncover the dark secret their mother took to her grave.

Captivating from the first minute

Jeneva Rose absolutely killed it again! From the beginning of the book i was hooked. Definitely brings up feelings of grief and loss of a loved one so be aware of that. A great gripping thriller that keeps you on your toes and constantly guessing. I’ve always been a fan of her writing but she out did herself!

Rose Does it Again

I rarely read a physical copy of a book and then listen to it on Audible BUT this screamed to me to do so. I read this book as an ARC and thoroughly enjoyed it. However, this rendition to it is above and beyond expectations. 5 stars for both. Highly recommended. Can’t wait for Rose’s next book.

Good read

Didn’t like the characters much but they were human. The plot of the book was exciting and that’s all you can ask for in this era.

Great book.

First off this book was really good. I enjoyed reading it and reading the whole plot. It was a little bit underwhelming and I feel like booktok hyped it up way more than it was. Again it was really good but it was just a little bland and slow. Overall the plot shocked me and was something I wasn’t expecting. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Nail bitter Until The Very End

This story left me on the edge the whole time. I liked that the book took me through everyone’s view point chapter by chapter and never gave too many details up front. Just enough suspense to have you question everyone in the story. Great read from start to finish I almost wish there was a part two!

Uuummmm😌

This was on my most anticipated list, so I wanted to love it, as I am a Jeneva fan. But I couldn’t, Every character was unlikable, even if some redeemed themselves by the end. I just couldn’t care enough. And I guessed the twist pretty early on, which made the fighting and hurtful words a lot less entertaining! Not her best work! Maybe next time Jeneva!

Wonderful

I loved the story and loved the narrators. What a wonderful dreamworld Jeneva can dream up.

Some really dumb plot points

Jeneva is a good writer, no question, but there were several "blonde coed walks into an attic from which a severed head just fell" moments. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!? Along with "life doesn't work that way" pivots that were pretty much required for the plot to succeed, my eyes rolled. She's good enough that I finished anyway, even though I didn't like any of the siblings, and I usually have to like characters to stick with their stories.

Don’t trust?

This was just amazing such a good listen! I have the actual copy but due to work chose to listen. Narration was great! Definitely voices I felt for the characters and I loved it wasn’t just one or two people doing the narration. Would definitely recommend this to someone and read it again.
