Phenomenal Book

I love that this book strikes at the foundation of what sound leadership really is... love! I really enjoyed how the author speaks of the absence of ego and having a genuine love and concern for the people under one's leadership. The detailed breakdown of each point being expressed gives a clear and concise understanding of the message the author is conveying! A great read for all and a MUST read for anyone in or aspiring to hold a leadership position!

The Concept

I thought this book was well written. The concepts behind LOVE, the different angles and approaches the author took on LOVE, and marrying LOVE to leadership was overall a new version of thinking for me. I definitely have to rethink my leadership qualifications and adjust my thought process when it comes to being and taking on leadership roles.

FIVE STARS – I highly recommend this book!

I first heard Mr. Spencer J. Conley speak at a special event put on by supporters of our local school district for parents, educators, and students. There were lots of people in attendance and right away he captured all of our attention, even the kids'. Spencer has a commanding presence and owned the room when he spoke, his words permeated the gathering space, and pierced the soul, which caused me think about how I conduct myself in all aspects of my life. Spencer has a gift for identifying the seemingly common missteps that we make in relationships (both professional and personal) and invites you to consider how you can be better. It’s clear that he has a gift for uplifting and helping youth and adults alike, and HE CARES ABOUT PEOPLE. After that event I purchased a few copies of Spencer’s book (one for my son and for a teacher friend of mine). I read it once through, and found it just a practical as his speech when he came to the school and spoke to our community.

The book, ‘Lead with L.O.V.E.’ is Spencer’s contribution to humanity – to help all those who read it reflect on how they can become a better version of themselves. The book contains practical, sound advice in leading people in the workplace, improving family relationships, as well as bits of personal refinement that are simple enough to apply right away in a person’s life.

I really enjoyed the Audible version of the book. I had hoped to use parts of it in a training I was developing for leaders in my organization, and had a few people preview it. They loved it too, just as I did, and all suggested that EVERYONE in our organization should read (or listen) this book! That’s a testament to how universal Spencer’s message is in his book ‘Lead with L.O.V.E.’. It resonates with people at all levels of leadership and across industries, even touching personal aspects of life – the message is that clear and that practical! I did share a segment of the Audible version of the book in my training (with permission from the author) and it went over very well. Once we concluded the training, the team wanted to know more about Spencer and the book. Another indication of the power of positivity in the words spoken in this version of ‘Lead with L.O.V.E.’.

The Audible version of the book is worth the purchase, even if you’ve read the hard copy version. The narrator, Derrick Hardin, does a wonderful job making the author’s words come to life in a realistic and relevant way. I could feel the concepts come alive in a different way than when I had first read the book. In the past I’ve listened to some audio books where the person reading the book doesn’t seem to care enough about what they're reading to add feeling or intonation, nor does it feel like they're a good match for the content. Derrick, on the other hand, is a perfect fit for delivering the author's message with clarity and passion, just as I’m sure Spencer intended it to be read.

Interestingly enough, there is a call with the author at the very end of the audio book version. This is something new that I’ve not experienced before on an audio book, and it was pretty cool, actually. The man narrating on Audible (Derrick) conducts the interview with Spencer and the listeners get to hear some additional insights from the author. In this very candid, unscripted conversation, you can hear Spencer's direct and gruff voice speak about how much HE CARES ABOUT PEOPLE. The author shares why he wrote the book and how it’s intended to help those whose lives it touches. At the end, he discloses that there’s a children’s version of the book in the works called, ‘Little Leaders Lead with LOVE’. That should be a good read as well! Everything that Spencer produces is inspired, and helps others become better people.

FIVE STARS – I highly recommend this book!
