About this listen

Don't bring a sword to a gunfight...unless it has +5 radiant damage.

Henry’s life as a valiant defender of the realm is over—stolen away when he is transported to a strange new world. Instead of horses and swords, it has cars, rent, hamburgers, and a gun-toting part-time waitress named Shana. There isn't much use for a white knight atop a fiery steed...or is there?

Thankfully, Henry’s ability to level up and unlock powerful new skills hasn’t abandoned him. In fact, Shana is starting to level up, too. But there's a catch. Turns out, they’ve caught the attention of a secret society that's devoted to the very system of power that Henry was raised on. Led by the enigmatic Demon King, they aren’t happy about newcomers getting involved in their affairs. Magic, power, experience—the Society wants it all for themselves, and they'll happily kill whoever it takes to keep it that way.

The story was great over all the problem is the passing, It took forever to advance a plot only to fall short of expectations. we are given too much information on a subject only to be short changed when it truly matters. an example Henry's sister becomes a knight and we just gloss over that fane like nothing happened.

Good Story

I am very impressed by the writer's ability to flesh out his characters and to create a unique story that draws your interest and keeps you guessing.

better than the cover, great writing and narration

Starts strong and doesn't waste time getting you up to speed with the world. Some familiar elements, like the "man out of time/out of place" trope, when Sir Henry has to get used to Our World, but a simple concept done well is enjoyable. I do think the back half of the story slowed down a little and wasn't as tight as the first half, but overall a fun read and I'd listen to a sequel.

I don't usually enjoy LitRPG but this was good

this was a really good at entertaining story quite a few twists and I like the narrative the majority of our main characters are very entertaining and likable I don't want to spoil too much but I would definitely suggest try I'd give the story like an 85 and the narrator was amazing

very enjoyable

Pros
+ started out interesting enough

Cons
- Should have gotten a different narrator who has a wider vocal range. He doesn’t really differentiate voices at all, or if he tries to, it doesn’t come through
- The writing and dialogue started out okay but quickly became stale and boring. Not enough character development and concentrates too much on who I consider side characters
- at some point in the book, maybe near the middle, the characters get split up, and everyone just acts oddly as opposed to what you think they would be thinking and doing based on what you know about them. This is the point where I stopped because the writing and narration was grating

I’m not sure how this audiobook has so many positive reviews

A lot of subtle/not subtle nods to the Right way mixed into the first hour.
I'm sure some people will be into it, I'm just not one of them.

I did enjoy the narrator.

Had to return after an hour.

The idea is taken from a Hugh Jackman movie and then poorly built upon. The narrator didn’t add anything to the mix so all around dud for me.

Not so good

the main character is sidelined by chapter 5 and the rest of the book is about the girl power duo, and there trek through some bs dungeon, this book is a bait and switch as the mc has the least time in the book of any character. if u want a girl power dungeon adventure then this is your book!.... not mine.

the main character is sidelined by character 5
