About this listen

International best seller Samuel Bjork makes his US debut with a chilling and fast-paced thriller in which two detectives must hunt down a vengeful killer - and uncover the secret that ties each of them to the crime.

A six-year-old girl is found in the Norwegian countryside, hanging lifeless from a tree and dressed in strange doll's clothes. Around her neck is a sign that says, "I'm traveling alone."

A special homicide unit in Oslo reopens with veteran police investigator Holger Munch at the helm. Holger's first step is to persuade the brilliant but haunted investigator Mia Krüger, who has been living on an isolated island, overcome by memories of her past. When Mia views a photograph of the crime scene and spots the number one carved into the dead girl's fingernail, she knows this is only the beginning. Could this killer have something to do with a missing child abducted six years ago and never found or with the reclusive religious community hidden in the nearby woods?

Mia returns to duty to track down a revenge-driven and ruthlessly intelligent killer. But when Munch's own six-year-old granddaughter goes missing, Mia realizes that the killer's sinister game is personal, and I'm Traveling Alone races to an explosive - and shocking - conclusion.

Any additional comments?

The ending was a bit rushed I think...but considering the book was over 15 hours I guess I can't complain. I didn't want it to end. I wanted to hear what happened to each character. Each character could have had their own little spin off. love the book.

Great story with awesome characters!

This is as good as THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATOO SERIES. Pace, narration, plot and character development spot on.

Wish there was a sequel!

Laura Paton's performance was excellent as she read this dark tale of twisted minds and fractured childhoods. Bjork weaves together two main story lines together with skill as he builds his characters. Not many smiles here as we venture into damaged and depressed minds as well as those of the criminally insane! Nevertheless, there is redemption here too.
I do hope we get a chance to peep into the world of Holger and Mia again.

Dark tale, beautifully narrated.

I love this narrator. Laura Paton is very subtle in the way she differentiates between characters and has a natural way of speaking. I was never distracted by her. The book is really great as well. Ill be looking for more by Samuel Bjork.

Excellent Narrator

The book was an engaging listen. At times I could feel the writer plodding his way through the middle bits and it made me like the text more. The story is wabi-sabi in spots; for example, when one detective asks another to Google a crime location. The aspect of the story that felt unnecessary was the heroin addiction link between the killer's deceased sister and Mia's deceased sister. Nonetheless, I will seek out other books by Bjork. The narrator made the book sing!

Engaging and the seams show

I'm Traveling Alone is one of the best audiobooks I've listened to. The story kept me listening long after I should have gone to bed on several occasions, and the narrator, Laura Paton, was perfect for this book. I found the characters fascinating, and the jump from one point of view to another was handled skillfully. I hope there will be many more books in this series.

A New Favorite

Good storyline that comes together in the end. Some parts were unnecessary especially about Mus but all and all a nice distraction with a good narrator voice
