About this listen

Police officer Alexander Blix and celebrity blogger Emma Ramm join forces to track down a serial killer with a thirst for attention and high-profile murders, in the first episode of a gripping new Nordic Noir series....

Oslo, 2018. Former long-distance runner Sonja Nordstrøm never shows at the launch of her controversial autobiography, Always Number One. When celebrity blogger Emma Ramm visits Nordstrøm’s home later that day, she finds the door unlocked and signs of a struggle inside. A bib with the number one has been pinned to the TV.

Police officer Alexander Blix is appointed to head up the missing-persons investigation, but he still bears the emotional scars of a hostage situation 19 years earlier, when he killed the father of a five-year-old girl.

Traces of Nordstrøm soon show up at different locations, but the appearance of the clues appear to be carefully calculated...evidence of a bigger picture that he’s just not seeing....

Blix and Ramm soon join forces, determined to find and stop a merciless killer with a flare for the dramatic and thirst for attention. Trouble is, he’s just got his first taste of it....

just ok

The story was not predictable, but not much of a page turner, so to speak. I wanted more character development, more emotion, more subplots, but it was mainly a narration of the crime spree and the countdown, if you like that, and only want to focus on the police side of things, then you probably will like this. If you like character development and drama and juicy tidbits then this probably isn’t for you. the reason i chose this title was because i love james laley, the narrator. he was fantastic as usual.

Cannot recommend

Norway is the setting. It was hard to get into the story, perhaps the narrator was dull and low toned which wasn’t pleasant. The story idea had potential, just not written to make it a compelling who done it.

A book

This "review" was written purely to satisfy Audible's offensive and ridiculous decision to require a review to rate books.

enjoyable

A race against a devious smart serial killer has the police authorities one step behind in tracking him. Blix, the lead detective, has some emotional scars from a previous case, but insists he is the right person to solve the case as he teams up with a celebrity reporter, Emma. The action moves fast, the details are well written for you to visualize the scenes. An enjoyable story.
I listened to the audible version and enjoyed the narration.

Solid all around

Very interesting characters, an intriguing plot, and lots of suspense. Thoroughly enjoyable, if you like creepy psychological thrillers set in Scandinavia. Looking forward to more in this series! I should say that I gave 4 starts (It's great) only because this was not as edgy or intense as say, the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series or any of Joe Nesbo's books. But still very enjoyable!

This isnt a great read but it holds the reader's interest. The small small clues are drizzled before us but leave room for surprises. It morphs into a low gore horror book. Good for a bitterly cold winter read :-)

I was looking for a new series

It seems I really enjoy books written in this part of the world (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the Chestnut Man etc). Excellent all around and nice beginning to a new series.
