About this listen

A cut-through-the-crap guide to quitting the self-destructive habits that undermine happiness and success

How to Stop Feeling Like Sh*t is a straight-shooting self-improvement guide for women, one that offers frank advice about the most common self-destructive behaviors women engage in. Andrea Owen—a nationally sought-after life coach—crystallizes what’s behind several invisible, undermining habits, from catastrophizing and people-pleasing to listening to the imposter complex or to one’s inner critic. Powerfully on the mark, the chapters are short and digestible, nicely bypassing weighty examinations in favor of punch points of awareness. Her book kicks women’s gears out of autopilot and empowers listeners to create happier, more fulfilling lives.

Now updated to address new challenges including the COVID-19 global pandemic, the toxic positivity of the self-care industry, and the destructive impact of social media, How to Stop Feeling Like Sh*t enjoins listeners to overcome their negative habits with compassion and understanding.

This book hit me in the face with reality

I can't stop listening/taking notes!!! Andrea is making me dig deep and notice things that I need to change/control! I did speed it up a bit as I felt like she talked a little slow. 1.75x is where I feel it is perfect. I love that there is so many exercises, it is not just this is what's going on, this is how I fixed it. It is more of a this is what I have learned here is an exercise to dig deep and here is how we can work to fix what you figured out.

No nonsense advice

Love the casual manner the book is written. It is like talking with my best friend. Excellent info for me at the right time.

Great no bullshit guide for women!!

I have tried numerous self help books trying to figure out why I was so sad. Took the medications... saw therapists... exercised. There were so many things I didn’t even realize I was doing until I read this books. Also, she tells you how to fix it. Doesn’t hurt I love her voice. It’s a must!!!

Great Staples of Self Care Along With a Few Gems

I have been reading books like this for years, mostly because when you stop practicing these tools, it's easy to forget them. So I was reading this for a reminder and was kind of expecting the same old same old, but I was impressed with the way Andrea Owen brought in tools and techniques from a variety of psychological niches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Complex PTSD, anxiety, and depression. I was excited by the gems of new knowledge that I got throughout, including within the exercises.

Also bonus points for including the downloadable PDF to go with the book included on the Audible page.

Overall, I'd say this is worth a read, even if you already know about most of this, you might find some new stuff. For those who've not read a book like this, it's fantastic, filled with gold. Hightly recommend.

I have more than 14 habits, but it's a start!!

I listened twice. I've been sober for almost six years and have struggled with how to find my inner voice again after one crazy BP relationship and one narcissistic, overwhelmingly, beautiful nightmare that stole the very last bit of life I had left in me. My solution was to drink until I die or decided I had a reason to live. I did, she had ten toes and fingers and for some reason she loved me even though I was a complete disaster, that couldn't even keep the Vodka down anymore. I got sober, for me, but nearly six years out, why do I feel like shit? I have a HP, do steps, meetings, nothing works. So, maybe it's habits. I loved her story, her help, her potty mouth, straight forward no BS approach. I needed that , it's a start.

I will be re-reading this book.

This book really is a self-awareness book. I thought it really hit home on a lot of things I do or feel every day. I HIGHLY recommend this book. I will be re-reading this book again and again, to help me practice the tool's she gave me. 2 Thumbs WAY up!
