About this listen

There is hope after trauma. Some of us can recall the exact moment our lives changed forever. The horrific accident. The miscarriage. The day they walked out. The moment our innocence was taken. Others of us can't remember a time when our lives weren't marked by trauma, abuse, or neglect. What happened to you was wrong and it hurt you, but it doesn't have to define you. You may be wounded, but you're not broken. You can overcome trauma and embrace a brighter future.

Over the last decade, husband and wife team Evan and Jenny Owens have helped thousands of people overcome the trials, tragedies, and traumas of their past, and in this book, they show you how you can too. With empathy and insight, Healing What's Hidden offers a practical, step-by-step process to help you acknowledge your trauma, heal your invisible wounds, and reclaim your future so you can live beyond the anxiety, depression, and shame trauma leaves behind. Others are already experiencing healing. Now it's your turn.

Helpful but heavy on the scriptures

Overall, the book was insightful as it related to the scope of Reboot. The narrator styles seemed fast at times, but could be slowed down in the settings. I’m a Christ follower, but the heavy scripture references could be overwhelming or off-putting especially when the intro specifically stated that this was not a ‘religious’ text with the disclaimer that everyone could still benefit. There was a point when it started to seem like ‘all would be better if you just forgive” in nearing the end of the book. It’s more nuanced than that…Defining ‘safety’ for someone could be challenging in the trauma conscious/informed space. I have come to learn it’s more of a felt sense than a definition. I recommend the book but with caution. Research and possibly use it as a support within the Reboot group experience.

Don't hug the cactus

I loved how vulnerable the authors were with their own lives and how this book compelled me to expose and overcome my hidden things. Stop hugging the cactus!

Very insightful, wonderful book

I listened to this book with the intentions of possibly using it with our recovery house residents; yet, I learned things about MYSELF that I had no idea were in there. The title of this book couldn’t be more fitting!

Couldn’t make it past 5 min

There was a part that said “all are welcome” but they then proceeded to lay the God talk and scripture references on THICK. I’ve experienced multiple traumas, including religious trauma, so each reference was like nails on a chalkboard. I truly aim to respect others belief systems so I wanted to hang in but after at least 15 references 5 min in I just couldn’t manage it.
