About this listen

After the loss of a loved one, once the services are over and the relatives and friends have gone home, we are left to enter a strange new land, where someone who has given meaning to our life is gone. Drawing on her own experience as well as that of others, author Martha Whitmore Hickman presents a year's worth of meditations for people dealing with this profound loss, offering solace and illuminating a way forward. From January 1 to December 31, each day's meditation considers a meaningful quotation or passage on grief or suffering, with sources ranging Shakespeare to Emily Dickinson, from the Christian Bible to Hindu proverbs. A thoughtful, sensitive collection, Healing After Loss will comfort and inspire listeners on their journeys through grief toward recovery.

UPLIFTING

I highly recommend this wonderful book- I never imagined a book could help me to heal after the loss of my husband. Every word is validating, comforting, and promotes feelings of hope. The narrator does a wonderful job. I hope anyone who is grieving will take a chance on this one since it truly helps. Thank you to the author for providing this comfort.

Not impressed

She did have a few things that were good to remember though I usually fell asleep when I listened to it. It was way to new agey for me. Your belief is your belief, your truth is your truth, yet we cannot really know the truth. I don't find that comforting at all. I defiantly won't recommend it for my clients nor will I ever read it again.

Thank you for this book.

Would you listen to Healing After Loss again? Why?

I lost my love of 39 years suddenly. I miss him. It's been a little over a month. Because we were are a gay couple in a small city, I've felt very alone. Listening to this book as I have my morning coffee and as needed has been extremely helpful. I have it on my phone and at the ready. Grief I know now is different for everyone but I recommend this book to try. It covers so many sides of grief in small easy to listen to pieces of knowledge. It's been very helpful to me.

Meaningful content unsatisfactory narration.

Good, meaningful content, but I found it difficult to tolerate the old lady sounding, raspy voice of the narrator,

Excellent if you are dealing with a loss...

Martha Whitmore Hickman does an excellent job of encouraging those who have lost a loved one. Her book is poetic and is written with love. I can see that since she lost her teenage daughter and she speaks from personal experience.

She is respectful of the grief process yet she nudges you slowly to enjoying the moment and accept that the situation cannot be changed but your reaction can. She also offers comfort in that one can actually feel the presence of a loved one who has passed.

This is true because I recently lost my father and every now and then I do feel him near or I will dream of him and it seems too real and vivid.

Losing someone can be heart wrenching but Ms. Hickman is an excellent example of balancing the grieving process with hope.

I needed this book after my wife passed away

After the loss of my wife to breast cancer I had to listen to something to help me get through the pain I was feeling. This book goes based on days of the year. You can start anywhere. But it just helps give you insight on the loss of a loved one. I sure do miss my wife 😢 #death #sorrow #love #sadness #emptyness #tagsgiving #sweepstakes
