Pdf would have been nice

There were charts and lists that would have been great in a supplemental pdf. Overall, great general advice on survival, but don’t think you’ll be able use any of it without some hands on training. I about couldn’t stand the narrator. His voice was grating, until the credits at the end, and i really wonder why he didn’t just use his real voice instead of making me want to clear my throat the whole time.

Great content, brutal to get through the narration

Solid content, more detailed than some other books of this kind, particularly in the first aide/medical section. With respect, I personally had a hard time with the narrators voice, it reminds me of Froggy from the Little Rascals, so it was comical at times, almost annoying at others. I did know what I was getting into as I always listen to the sample before buying, but a minute sample vs an entire book taught me a good lesson.

Good, but a bit too anti-theory

While the content is valuable, he does rant against survival "theories" and suggest "his" take on various things. It's fine to question "theories", but then you should have a stronger case than "this is my experience".

5 Stars! I listen every day 'The Survival Bible!

Where does Hawke's Green Beret Survival Manual rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Ranks #1 Hawke's Survival Bible has every single thing anyone needs to know on the topic of Survival from day one, what to look for on the net or in stores in the way of gear. A shopping list for every thing you Need, May be nice to have, and how to know if it's good, How to pack it, Where to keep it, and details of 'How to', prepare, do, use, and care for it all. Hawke even tells you how to skip it all, and leaves out nothing, while adding no fluff.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hawke's Green Beret Survival Manual?

In the first chapter as he repeats again and again that one need not spend a dime on gadgets and gear, since when stuff starts splatting against the fan blades, you will likely be in the bathroom at church, so you won't have a chance to get your hands on any of it. Just to be sure you always have your Will to Survive.
Though his personal account of his life growing up, his first years in Survival Training, was surprising and candid.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I wish Hawke could have did the narration himself, though after the first or second chapter, the Narrator began to settle into the role, I think.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Well there was chapter 1 then there was chapter 2, Oh! and chapter 3, this isn't True at first light or some other Hemingway story, but every chapter caused me to stop what I was doing and go do something and this is still happening as of today, more than 40 days after I first began listening to it. Hawke explains things so clearly it may have not been needed, but I was 'moved', to go and anchor his tips and advice into my self so that I could own it!

Any additional comments?

Anyone interested in this book, for what ever reason, need really only be sure to do one thing. Get this book laminated, and get this audio version next to your bed so you can listen to it as you fall to sleep, have it in your car so you can listen to it instead of the local history station on the daily commute and then get a good nights rest, because you can forget all the gadgets and expensive gear, as long as you have Hawke's Bible and a will to make it through no matter what, you have all you must have to survive.

Narrator getting unfair review

The book is absolutely awesome. Covers everything you would ever need to know. However all of the reviews say the narrator is almost unbearable. It's kind of unfair when you think about it. For whatever reason the author chose to have a company pick a narrator for his story. I don't think the tone of voice he uses is the one he uses naturally or an everyday life but what would you do if you were a professional narrator trying to make a paycheck and had to narrate a book bye one of the toughest Green Berets and person in the world. Can't really sound like a Silicon Valley businessman. I think he did fine and didn't overdo it. It didn't distract me from the book at all. Once again the book was great

The Best, Most Complete Survival Manual Available

The narrator is indeed terrible. He sounds like a nerd trying to sound tough. But don’t let that keep you from this no-nonsense tour de force. I have read almost every survival manual out there and there are some other gems, but pound for pound, this one delivers the most applicable, real world punch you need if you truly want to develop the skills needed to survive. The first three chapters alone are worth the money.
If you want the best information out there on surviving almost anything, this is it.

Incesible information, narration almost ruins it.

I found the information in this book to be absolutely amazing. I love how Hawke clearly states that this is for the “everyman” not the trained professional. I absolutely loved the book and am going through for the second time. Maybe I had gotten spoiled by a few good narrators that this was almost frustrating at times. Nonetheless, the information was just what I was looking for and one of the best I’ve listened to so far.

Great info. Horrible narration

I really enjoyed the information contained in this book.
I certainly agree with most of the other reviews. The narrator needs to find different line of work. He needs to learn proper pronunciation of acronyms. Captured American service personnel ate P.O.Ws not pows. And others. Made me want to slap him.
Capt. Hawke. Narrate the book yourself or at least find someone better and reissue the audiobook. I find it hard to believe the publisher allowed this and charge for this horrible reading.

brutally practical and straight to the point

This book is brutally straight forward. Not only did the author gave me the ideas that I truly need when I'm out there, I learned the basic concepts to know when you're out there, the practical approach on things and not the theoretical and very specific things like names and such. I don't need to know the names of the plants but I do need to know how to find them, what they look like and their specific uses.

Did I loved the book? Hell yeah!

Did I struggle to finish it? Hell no.

My most memorable moment? First aid. what to do when the worst possible shit happens to you, like when your eye pops out, or what to do when something injects you with cyanotoxins.

How was the narrator? He's ok. He sounded like a soldier was teaching me how to suck it up, never quit and survive. Although the humor parts where not really convincing. haha
