Pronunciation killed it!!!!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This was a short and concise summary of foods in Hawaii and the influence of other cultures. A very enjoyable topic BUT unfortunately, the pronunciation was abysmal and it was like nails on a chalk board!! I don't understand why readers don't take the time to learn just the basics of the words they need to pronounce when reading a book for AUDIBLE. I love audible books because I can do things while listening but this has to be the thing that is most frequently an irritation with books about foreign cultures. It is a common complaint in reviews and I reject books of interest based on people saying the pronunciation is bad. It is equivalent to an oral presentation when someone has a tic and scratches their ear every few seconds. You get distracted from the message. I can NOT concentrate on the flow of the dialogue when words are so OFF. I could make a long list for this short reading but the one that was hysterical and pitiful was POKE. It is not the same as COKE, the drink. It is PO--Kay. I don't expect perfect, I am a beginner in many languages but this was laughable and painful at the same time. Call me, I am free!! I will give your readers a brief one hour class in basic pronunciation for Hawaiian or Japanese or German or Spanish (that is all I can help you with) but even at my level I would not butcher it like this reader. Let's spare the next set of readers. Please redo this information that is of interest but have someone else read it. One of the greatest respects we can show other cultures is to pronounce the words of their language correctly. It is not about accent, it is about correct pronunciation---there is a difference. For Hawaiian pronunciation, contact one of the Hawaiian schools of language because they would gladly donate their time and are much better than me. Those of us that speak the English language would not like it if someone said "George BASH instead of George Bush". Now multiply that and mispronounce a word in almost every sentence. See what I mean???? Hard to concentrate on the message of the book. Good premise for the book but lost in the reading. I rarely write reviews but needed to share this---on the other hand I gave a review for WILD SWANS that was a 10 and if I could give more I would. Perfect pronunciation.

Would you recommend Hawaii Food Guide: Unique Foods from Hawaii You've Got to Try to your friends? Why or why not?

If you use this as a guide to speak the foods that you want while on your Hawaii vacation---you will stand out as a novice from the mainland. This is a recipe for WHAT NOT TO SAY

What didn’t you like about Sangita Chauhan’s performance?

BAD PRONUNCIATION. Speaks too fast.

What character would you cut from Hawaii Food Guide: Unique Foods from Hawaii You've Got to Try?

Here are the words that were enough to make me cringe:
Saimin, Katsu, Poke, Kakimochi, Mauna Loa and the list goes on but she did say one correctly---Azuki so one out of many is better than zero but still is a failing score

Any additional comments?

Great info, short reading, avoid it if you are going to reproduce her pronunciations or you will stand out like a sore thumb as a HAOLE and visitor with no respect for the language. By the way, I am not from Hawaii but it doesn't take much to do better than this.
