Publisher's summary

Stephen Fry brings the richness of these magical stories to life in the original British recordings, available for the first time in the United States and Canada.

Turning the envelope over, his hand trembling, Harry saw a purple wax seal bearing a coat of arms: a lion, an eagle, a badger and a snake surrounding a large letter 'H'.

Treat your ears to a performance so rich and captivating you'll imagine yourself in the halls of Hogwarts. Wherever you listen, the unmistakable voice of Stephen Fry is guaranteed to guide you ever more deeply into this magical story and transport you to the heart of the adventure.

Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Theme music composed by James Hannigan.

Having become classics of our time, the Harry Potter stories never fail to bring comfort and escapism. With their message of hope, belonging and the enduring power of truth and love, the story of the Boy Who Lived continues to delight generations of new listeners.

Finally!

Jim Dale's version was groundbreaking in the audio book field for his skill in representing so many different xharacters, but some of his voices just made me cringe, especially Hermione. This was an absolute joy to listen to, and I am looking forward to the rest.

Best Narrator

Love it. Buying all with Stephen Fry's narrative. Archiving the others with Jim's narrative.

Finally - Narrated by Stephen Fry

I’ve read the physical books numerous times. I’ve also listened to the American version of the books narrated by Jim Dale. Stephen Fry’s narration is excellent. I’m glad that we finally have access to the British audio version.

Grateful for the opportunity

I have read the Harry Potter series and listened to them narrated by Jim Dale, more than once. Jim does an excellent job but I had always wondered about Stephen Fry's versions. I was excited to have the opportunity and was not disappointed in any way. After listening, I popped in my DVD of the Sorcerer's Stone and watched it. So amazing on every level, I will be following suit with the rest of Stephen Fry's performances. I'm always on the lookout for the next opportunity to immerse myself in the World of Harry Potter.

Jim Dale vs Stephen Fry

I’ve listened to both versions of this by Jim Dale and Stephen Fry now. Although I do personally prefer Jim Dale. This is also great!

Doesn't cast Jim Dale into the shade

I have heard about the Stephen Fry narration of Harry Potter books for many years. I was delighted to see Audible offer the Fry narrations and promptly purchased the first book. I am not disappointed at any level with Mr. Fry. Excellent start to finish. But as someone who has listened to Jim Dale for literally decades, I am not inclined to salute Mr. Fry as the better narrator. Mr. Fry brings the stories to life with precision and passion both. But Jim Dale brings the books to life as he unfolds each character. Jim Dale demonstrates his own love for the books with his unique and deep understanding of their voices and inflections as surely the author intended. Mr. Fry narrates beautifully, but Jim Dale offers the superior performance.

Unpopular opinion: Stephen Fry is great but not Jim Dale

Stephen Fry is an amazing actor: I’ve loved his work since Jeeves and Wooster. His Sherlock Holmes & Mythos narrations are spectacular!
If I didn’t have Jim Dale to compare Fry’s HP narration to I’d give this 5/5. That’s not to say Stephen Fry is a poor narrator, but I love Jim’s personification of each character- his distinct voice for each character harmonizes with how they sound in the movies.
Had I heard Fry first I might agree with the sentiment that he is the better narrator.
Bottom line: you can’t go wrong with Jim or Stephen.
I already own all the Jim Dale narrations and have listened to each book at least five times and I intend to buy all Stephen Fry narrations too! Get both versions!!!
