About this listen

When Dr. Alan Gregory's good friend Peter Arvin is found bloody and dying on the stage of a Colorado theatre, suspicion soars that he has become the second victim of a killer whose first prey was discovered amid the elaborate scenery of the road company's production of the Broadway show Miss Saigon. Alan is immediately asked to respond to two pleas for help: one from the police, who would like a psychological profile of the murderer, and one from Peter's widow, who is desperate to know the meaning of her dead husband's secrets.

As Alan struggles to cope with the complexities of his new marriage and the shattering personal consequences of his friend's murder, provocative clues lead him down a trail that winds from the Front Range of the Rockies to the casinos of the Colorado high country and finally to the grandeur outside Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

His journey takes him deep into Peter's past and inevitably toward the discovery of harrowing truths about the human heart - about the struggle for survival and the quest for forgiveness - that seem always just out of his reach, obscured by the smoke of a long-forgotten fire.

Undistinguished, Average But Okay

I really got off on Adrienne Allen, wife of the murder victim… She's a great character and both White and Hill have fun with her. She's a scene stealer. Otherwise, I listened through the book and generally enjoyed what's become a too easy villain for many writers in the genre. Still, it was a way to make gain through my pain at the gym every morning I listened. Harm's Way distracted me from the discomfort and I think I'll listen to another of Stephen White's books, especially if Dick Hill's the reader. They're a competent team.

Too Much

description and not enough action. It's worth listening to but then again, someone needs to teach Dick Hill how to read women's parts so they don't all sound like lispy air heads, especially when White's female characters are anything but. The book is interesting. It's worth purchasing but I've listened to other authors that hold my attention better.

Alan Gregory is a compelling, reluctant hero...

This is a departure from the "tough hero takes on the world" but Alan Gregory lures you in with his wit and deduction prowress... A very compelling character
