About this listen

New York Times bestselling author Eloisa James returns to the Accidental Brides series with a romance about a forced marriage between a feisty heroine and a Scottish laird... neither of whom have plans to marry, let alone fall in love.

Desperate after her Season comes to a spectacularly disastrous end, the Honorable Miss Clara Vetry jumps into a carriage hired to take a housekeeper to Scotland.

The laird of Castle CaerLaven has no interest in a wife, especially a love match—but when Caelan sees his new housekeeper, he changes his mind. Marriage to a delectable bookworm strikes him as a perfect arrangement.

To his surprise, Clara refuses his proposal once…and again…yet again.

When her true identity is revealed, and they’re forced to marry, Caelan realizes he has a far more crucial challenge.

He finally has Clara’s hand—but how will he ever win her heart?

Sometimes the brogue was hard to understand. But the characters were delightful for the most part.

Well developed characters and the humor between them.

Eloisa James has a genius touch in creating wonderfully believable characters, both female and male, in plausible historical settings, well described. An Eloisa James novel always provides a positive cathartic experience.

Eloisa James takes the reader a beautifully written episode about two characters in the Scottish Highlands.

Clara didn’t know she was brave or beautiful. After being singled out by Prince George, her life was over and it was up to her to redefine who she wanted to be. Pretending to be a housekeeper, she runs off to Scotland and discovers she is the hero of her own story. A beautiful love story. I laughed and cried and fell in love with a naked, highland laird.

I love a brave heroine!

Plenty to adore about this story. Narration of course was perfect with Mary Jane Wells, characters were endearing, and plot was lighthearted with witty dialogue
…. just a lot of good fun.

At its heart, it’s a miscommunication trope which is my least favorite, but even with that I gobbled the story up in two days. I love that she couldnt keep anything about herself a secret when she arrived and that there was no “oh you’re not a house keeper” moment on his part. It made the entire story feel fresh and fun.

A light and fun love story
