About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Eloisa James returns to the Wildes series with a prequel about the Wilde children's parents, Hugo, duke of Lindow, and Ophelia, Lady Astley.

Every duke needs a duchess....

Hugo Wilde, the duke of Lindow, has a drafty castle, eight naughty children - and no wife. Ophelia, Lady Astley, has a fine house, one well-behaved daughter - and no husband. Hugo takes one look at Ophelia and loses his heart, but she doesn’t want more children or a castle. She takes one look at him and heads for her carriage. Desperate to find a duchess, Hugo identifies an appropriate lady to woo. Yet when he meets Ophelia again, the duke realizes that he will marry her or no one.

Now he faces the greatest challenge of his life. He must convince Ophelia that their blazing sensuality, his exquisite castle, and his eight charming children add up to a match made in heaven.

When duke finds his duchess, can he win her heart?

I fully enjoyed the series Wildes of Lindow Castle and finally decided to listen to "My Last Duchess." Oh, how I liked the dialogue and the Duke and soon-to-be Duchess and their wrangling and canoodling. Eloisa James remains one of my favorite authors in this genre. What a treat! I do note Susan Duerden as narrator did not inspire me. I wished I had read this in ebook instead of listening in Audible.

Such a good story.

I enjoyed this book more than any other Eloisa James novel that I have read before (even though I am not a fan of the narrator, Susan Duerden). That is not saying a lot, since I have sworn never to read EJ again on several occasions. This book was in the Audible Plus Catalog, so it was free. I'm glad that I tried it because I liked both main characters. Hugo was gobsmacked by Ophelia, but she was a happy widow hesitant to take on Hugo's eight children.

The romance is sweet and charming, as are the children.

I enjoyed it very much even if I doubt it in real life. It was still a nice distraction.

A lovely prequel to the series, this book was just as fun to read as I'd hoped! This would be a pleasure to read whether you've read all of the other series books, or none at all.

The narrator did a lovely job as well. 😊

Delightful!

James always excels at blending children in her novels this was no exception. However I did not think it was realistic to fall in love in one night. The H was a little boring with his over the top comments of love. I liked the children and our h. But it is time to get a new narrator that does not over dramatize and draw out the syllables. Really there are great narrators Change now.

I absolutely love the romance and I wish someone could love me like the Duke loves Ophelia ugh

I love it for my 2nd romance book.

Love this story! Hopefully we have lots of spin off stories because there are so many characters and storylines to delve into!

Fantastic Story

So happy to read an HR where children/childbirth are involved throughout the book...not in the epilogue. I thoroughly enjoyed this listen.
The narrator's voice is a little annoying at first, but I got used to it by chapter 3

Great Read!

just what you would expect from this series, which in these uncertain times, is a godsend.

I have read books by Eloisa James in the past but not this series. Glad I read this pre book before the rest in the series, it helps to know who all the main characters are!
I enjoyed this shortish romance, an easy listen while doing household chores! I may decide to get the next book once I've read a few reviews. I thought the narrator did a pretty good job too although I did speed it up to 1.25, I am not fond of slow talkers.

Short but sweet romance
