About this listen

No one survives hiring me. Not even her.

I’m a Nightmare, a creature that feeds on fear, and I’m capable of boundless cruelty—which is why my services come at a steep price: the life of the person who hired me. As such, the only people who hire me on are those brought to me by fate, like Mina, a woman so desperate for revenge that she’s willing to spend her own life to get it.

I don’t usually care why I’m hired. Human affairs don’t matter to me. Food is food, and a job is a job.

Mina’s enemies will get what they deserve—and I’ll get what’s mine.

Her beating heart.

Monster Security Agency is the most elite bodyguard service in the world. These monster bodyguards are lethal, powerful, and determined to protect their clients at all costs. They shouldn't fall in love with their principals, but if they do? Things are bound to explode.

Here come spicy, romantic, and action-packed tales by your favorite paranormal and sci-fi romance authors: Cassie Alexander, Layla Fae, and Cara Wylde. Dive into the world of the Monster Security Agency.

This story is amazing!

Guarded by the Nightmare is book #8 in the Monster Security Agency series. I'm a fan of this author and her romantacy stories, but this one was so different (in a fantastic way) that I binged it from start to finish. **Check the trigger warnings as some issues are referenced** Silas/Nightmare and Mina team up for one week to bring justice to those that have wronged her and her best friend at a frat party. The character building, the descriptive writing, the extremely innovative smexy scenes...just a big WOW factor. It's not often that you are rooting for the "nightmare", but here you go. You can't help but hope there's a way these two can find an HEA. This is a standalone, but characters from previous books are referenced and included.

The narration was incredible! Jonathan Lake (who sounds remarkably like a narrator I love??) and Avery Caris really brought this story to life. This is definitely a "the audiobook was better" stories for me. I loved it. 5/5 stars!!

Good

I think the narrators did an excellent job telling this story.

This is something I've never read or listened to before. It was a bit long but I enjoyed listening to it. Mina summons Silas to seek revenge for her friend who is in a coma from a tragedy she saved her from that involved her ex and his frat boys. Once Silas helps her he will then take her life too. While seeking revenge somethings are revealed that she didn't know comes to light and a truth about herself is revealed too. Also there is a shift in the relationship between these two that change things. I liked it and even though it says its the eighth book in the series it is a standalone. I will be checking out the other stories some are from different authors.

Shadows have never been so sexy

Narrated by Avery Caris and Jonathan Lake

Mina and The Nightmare aka Sylas

• Trauma • Paranormal • Magic • Revenge • Monster Romance • Dual POV • Timeline jumps Touch her and Die

This is my first Cassie Alexander book - and I'm excited to read the others in the Monster Security Agency world. The entire premise of this book is unique - People can hire Sylas to kill others for them, however it comes at a steep price. Sylas is a shadow/smoke/nightmare that can wisp himself away, through walls, and change his body (including can summon multiple of any body part...).

As Mina is looking to find her revenge, she stumbles across details that lead her to the Monster Security Agency. Feeling hopeless, she figures there is nothing more to lose. As Sylas and Mina spend more and more time together, they find each other... more than tolerable. Sylas becomes a space of comfort and safety Mina was missing.

The narrators... OOOF. So. Good. They both embodied the part so very well.
Avery Caris was feminine and was able to showcase the underlying tone of anger, fear, and trauma from our MFC.
Jonathan Lake - gosh. Just perfection with the voice of the Nightmare. The intonation and pace was perfection.

This book was well written as a standalone. There was likely a couple spots that would have had more context had I read the previous books, however that didn't take away from the storyline.

NOTE: As always, read trigger warnings. This book is well written, however does talk about assault and trauma.

I received a copy of the audio from Home Cooked Books and listened to it through BookFunnel. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Best of the series

Loved the Kraken, but Nightmare was the best so far in my view. It intrigued me how a shadow of Nightmare can ever be with a human. But the story of Silas and Mina had proved to be the most fantastic one and simultaneously emotional, considering what the FMC went through. And Silas morphing from evil to kind but still with the hint of sinister was well written. The screaming during 🌶🌶🌶 was more than I bargained for but expected it, I guess LOL. Enjoyed the read!

Raw and Gritty Revenge Romance!

Mina went through a terrible experience (we learn as the story progresses). It is so bad she hires the Monster Security Agency. They will take out your enemies, but at the cost of your own life. Sylas is a Nightmare, who lives on fear.

This is intricate, detailed, gritty and wonderful. The magic/monster aspect of this was so well presented. It is gripping and entertaining, and believe it or not quite romantic. Both Mina and Monster are well developed and quite likable.

An hourglass countdown, the reveal of the reason behind the hiring, A history going back quite some time. A prisoner set free. An impeccable revenge. Intense, but in the best way possible. I listened to the audio, and it was superb!
