Eloquent Entry Evoking Eventual Erudition

I first studied French in high school. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to finish the course. My interest has been renewed recently and I'm glad I came across this book. It serves well to listen to it at night, allowing the listener to both learn and relax.

I highly recommend this to anyone who is either new to the language or needs to brush up on their lapsed linguistics. France is home to a vibrant culture that is both exquisite and storied, steeped in a history that is robust, ribald, and rich.

Let the delicate tones of langue français welcome you into another world as you hearken to the tongue of one of the oldest and most original of all romance languages.

Hear the story from a native speaker!

Would you listen to French Short Stories for Beginners again? Why?

French Short Stories for Beginners is a great way to brush up on your French. I took French in high school, but that was many years ago so I remember very little from my classes. The audiobook has about 60 short chapters. The first part of the book is read by a woman. She pauses at the end of each paragraph and goes over some of the vocabulary and phrases. She first says the phrase in French, then in English, and again in French. I found this to be very helpful. The second part of the book is read by a gentleman. He does not pause to go over the vocabulary. Both readers speak slowly so it is easy to understand them and learn proper pronunciation.

I love that many common and useful French vocabulary and phrases such as introducing yourself, talking about the weather, and asking for directions are woven throughout the story. As someone who is planning to travel to France in the next few months, I feel this is an excellent way to learn everyday phrases. I highly recommend this audiobook!

Strongly recommend

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I found the book really helpful as introduction to the French language. There are 15 different stories, each of them with different topic what helps to improve the vocabulary; at the end of each chapter there is a vocabulary recap which helps to get at the best all the words a bit tricky or not really common. The audio file is clear and really helpfully to get the pronunciation. At the beginning of the book there are tips to how use it, different uses are suggested depending on your level. I had fun to use both ways and see how I improved my skill. I would strongly recommend to all the people interested on learning French.

Yet another GEM from Monsieur Bibard

Yet another GEM from Monsieur Bibard et Madame Nouni! Frederic is fantastic! He offers many options just as in Talk in French, his outstanding tutoring brand for teaching beginners how to master French. The stories are very easy to follow along with, and one can select either a female or male narrator. Both speak very slowly and repeat phrases for comprehension. The stories are based on day to day activities such as going to school, conversations between individuals, and other situations that take place on any given day. Greetings, general questions, weather, and statements that are exchanged during basic conversations between people are the foundation for this masterpiece. “How are you?”, “What is your name?”, and various responses as well as vocabulary words such as months of the year are also highlighted in this book. Every single type of life situation is covered in this audiobook from a French perspective.
Additionally, everything from the previous chapter is recapped before a chapter begins. This repetition further ensures that the listener will be exposed to as much spoken French as possible.
This audiobook will work even better simultaneously with “Talk in French” beginners book with which one can read first, and then use the audiobook for further reinforcement. It is literally impossible not to master French with Frederic’s superior resources. Grab this book today whether you are a French novice or expert. You will NOT be disappointed!

Très Bien!

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed French Short Stories for Beginners by Frederic Bibard. I took french in high school and I loved it, but since then I haven’t studied the language and have slowly forgotten some of the basics of french. This program was great for helping me retain some information that I forgot in high school. The stories make it very interesting and they help you improve your listening and speaking of french. You can change the pace of the speaking if you need to, which is super helpful. The speakers are very clear and you never feel too lost, especially in the first chapters, because each phrase in french is translated to english. There are also great vocabulary recaps. There are plenty of chapters to listen to, and as you advance, it get’s slightly more difficult. This makes it more interesting and you feel like you are learning more as the speakers change. Both speakers were equally awesome to listen to. Also, this audiobook is super convenient to listen to anywhere, and I definitely would recommend it. The PDF version it comes with is really impressive. Overall, a great tool for the french language!

A useful tool for improving your French listening

I am incredibly rusty with French, having not taken courses since high school, but I found this book to be quite accessible. Both narrators speak at a natural pace, slow enough for the listener to process the vocabulary without feeling pressured to immediately understand everything. It's a very useful resource for hearing simple, conversational French from native speakers.

As a visual learner, I was glad to see a reference document where I could read the stories alongside the audio. However, I do wish the vocabulary were labelled by its part of speech--noun, verb, adjective, etc. I think I would remember the vocabulary better if I were given that extra information.

Otherwise, I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to brush up on their French and/or learn the pronunciation of words at a leisurely pace.

Great for passive learning!

This audio is great for learning French. The way the speaker switches from English to French makes picking up phrases a breeze. Within ten minutes I was able to pick up a few great words and small phrases. I would recommend this book to any curious mind. Amusez-vous bien!

Great for intermediate learners

I have been learning and relearning French sense I was 4 years old, that is 31 years now. And I have never learned as much as I have in the last 6 days. I especially liked the audio flashcards and how the words learned from one story were repeated later on in another to reinforce them.
