Acerca de esta escucha

Waiting to be deployed on a critical mission, elite Marine Raider Matthew Redd stops to help a stranger and wakes up hours later to learn his team was wiped out in an ambush. Unable to remember anything, Redd can’t deny the possibility that he’s somehow responsible for the information leak that led to the massacre. He’s given a deal to avoid a charge of treason, but it means walking away from the Corps and the life he loved.

As he faces his loss, Matty gets a cryptic message from his adoptive father, J. B.: “Trouble’s come knocking. . . . Might need your help.” He points his truck home to rural Montana, only to discover that J. B. is dead and the explanation for his death is far from satisfying. Determined to dig up the truth, Redd uncovers a dark global conspiracy with his hometown at the center and no team at his back―except one he might find among past friends, old enemies, and new allies, if he can figure out who to trust.

The book captured my attention at the beginning and I enjoyed it very much. Great story

Well done !!

Well done performance. A predictable story and I did not mind. Had to laugh at times with the old school dialouge.

Well done mix of bang bang shoot ups and a mystery

Great story and hero. It seemed a little slow in the middle when Matt arrived in town.

l found the book entertaining but predictable. Redd is too much like the Rambo and lacks the authentic plot that an original Tom Clancy novel. The author tries to write a love story, but fails to make any of the love interests real. More like early James Bond where you know that the women that are bad will ultimately end up dead.

unlikely plot but interesting characters

Enjoyed the character development as well as the overall plot. I’ll be reading more of Ryan Steck!

Great characters and writing

Good story line until you get near the end. the coincidences going on are just a little unbelievable. It seems a little far fetched the people responsible for so many things in the story are tied DIRECTLY to the main character. NO ONE is THAT unlucky. The things Redd did in his military service part of the story are great, but it doesn't carry on into the story. Very action packed beginning. Reader was mostly good, but at times, it's difficult to know when a different character is speaking.

mediocre

Was skeptical as how could the best critique of spy/thriller books be able to write anything that didnt have the same plot as all or some of the great books he has reviewed. After listening I’m more than impressed. Amazing book. Great characters great setting. Nailed it!

Loved it

Good start to a new series for me. As a Vet enjoyed the background, the story was a bit contrived, though. Still, will try another.

Good start, enjoyable

Too many story themes borrowed from other novels of this genre. Shades of "The Terminal List", "Yellowstone", etc.

A Mish-mash of Plot Twists

Simply put, Ryan Steck’s Fields of Fire is an impressive debut novel. It harnesses the better elements of C.J. Box, Jack Reacher, Yellowstone, Longmire, and more into an engaging novel. Ryan is no stranger to thriller writing, having made a career for years as one of the most respected thriller reviewers. He deliberately builds the plot's tension, allowing the reader to meet Matthew Redd and other characters. We feel his anger and confusion as he tries to investigate what happened to him, his family, friends, and the Montana town where he was raised. The twists and turns sneak up on you and are not overshadowed by lengthy high-tech descriptions or forced action sequences.

I listened to the Audible of this book. The narrator was professional and easy to listen to. His accents and voices were natural and never forced. I look forward to the next book in the Matty Redd series.
