The book captured my attention at the beginning and I enjoyed it very much. Great story

Well done mix of bang bang shoot ups and a mystery

Well done performance. A predictable story and I did not mind. Had to laugh at times with the old school dialouge.

A little slow in the middle

Great story and hero. It seemed a little slow in the middle when Matt arrived in town.

Enjoyed the character development as well as the overall plot. I’ll be reading more of Ryan Steck!

An Impressive Debut Novel

Simply put, Ryan Steck’s Fields of Fire is an impressive debut novel. It harnesses the better elements of C.J. Box, Jack Reacher, Yellowstone, Longmire, and more into an engaging novel. Ryan is no stranger to thriller writing, having made a career for years as one of the most respected thriller reviewers. He deliberately builds the plot's tension, allowing the reader to meet Matthew Redd and other characters. We feel his anger and confusion as he tries to investigate what happened to him, his family, friends, and the Montana town where he was raised. The twists and turns sneak up on you and are not overshadowed by lengthy high-tech descriptions or forced action sequences.

I listened to the Audible of this book. The narrator was professional and easy to listen to. His accents and voices were natural and never forced. I look forward to the next book in the Matty Redd series.

Action packed mystery delivers

This book will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. The characters feel real and developed. Rural Montana doesn't seem like the setting for much of anything but this story begs to differ.

If you enjoy action packed mystery look no further. Can't wait for the next book.

Very predictable characters and story - tho the writer gets credit for some good writing and a new plot twist addressing green crime. Good performance.

Not bad, just bland

I’ve was reading Rex Stout mysteries before I was a teenager, and it set the bar high for good writing and storytelling. This book misses the mark. The plot line was okay, but nothing special. The writing was just fair. The main character was annoying. When I finished, I knew there would be no more Steck novels on my reading list. My recommendation is to keep looking for better books.

Not the action, adventure book I thought it would be from the summary.

I like the premise but the pace of the story is slow. The romance triangle is ridiculous and I could not work up much sympathy for the protagonist. I quit reading about half way through.

Down to earth…believable characters…..plot twists….narration was great….highly recommend this book….well worth your time
