How can we apply technology to drive business value? For years we've been told that the performance of software delivery teams doesn't matter - that it can't provide a competitive advantage to our companies. Through four years of groundbreaking research to include data collected from the State of DevOps reports conducted with Puppet, Dr. Nicole Forsgren, Jez Humble, and Gene Kim set out to find a way to measure software delivery performance - and what drives it - using rigorous statistical methods. This book presents both the findings and the science behind that research, making the information accessible for listeners to apply in their own organizations.

Story
We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

Story
Although software has become easier to build, launching and scaling new products and services remains difficult. Start-ups face daunting challenges entering the technology ecosystem, including stiff competition, copycats, and ineffective marketing channels. Teams launching new products must consider the advantages of “the network effect”, where a product or service’s value increases as more users engage with it. Apple, Google, Microsoft, and other tech giants utilize network effects, and most tech products incorporate them.

Story
We used to think of failure as the opposite of success. Now, we’re often torn between two “failure cultures”: one that says to avoid failure at all costs, the other that says fail fast, fail often. The trouble is that both approaches lack the crucial distinctions to help us separate good failure from bad. As a result, we miss the opportunity to fail well. After decades of award-winning research, Amy Edmondson is here to upend our understanding of failure and make it work for us. In Right Kind of Wrong, Edmondson provides the framework to think, discuss, and practice failure wisely.

Story
Developing and implementing a strategy is the central task of a leader. A good strategy is a specific and coherent response to - and approach for - overcoming the obstacles to progress. A good strategy works by harnessing and applying power where it will have the greatest effect. Yet, Rumelt shows that there has been a growing and unfortunate tendency to equate Mom-and-apple-pie values, fluffy packages of buzzwords, motivational slogans, and financial goals with “strategy”.

The Fearless Organization offers practical guidance for teams and organizations who are serious about success in the modern economy. With so much riding on innovation, creativity, and spark, it is essential to attract and retain quality talent, but what good does this talent do if no one is able to speak their mind? The traditional culture of "fitting in" and "going along" spells doom in the knowledge economy. Success requires a continuous influx of new ideas, new challenges, and critical thought, and the interpersonal climate must not suppress, silence, ridicule, or intimidate.

Story
Most people who want to get better—at hitting golf shots, negotiating with clients, delivering presentations, or any other field of endeavor—seek out new information. They read a book, take a class, hire an expert tutor. But as Alan Fine has learned from many years of coaching athletes and businesspeople, this “outside-in” approach often doesn’t produce the results people want. More information becomes a distraction rather than a solution, and high performance remains elusive.

How the world's leading innovators push their ideas to fruition, time and time again. Edison famously said that genius is 1 percent inspiration, 99 percent perspiration. Ideas for new businesses, solutions to the world's problems, and artistic breakthroughs are common, but great execution is rare. According to Scott Belsky, the capacity to make ideas happen can be strengthened by anyone willing to build their organizational habits and harness the forces of community.

Story
What if you can successfully coach anyone in 15, five, or even 60 seconds using one question? Sales Leadership makes delivering consistent, high-impact coaching easy. For busy, caring managers, this removes the pressure and misconception that, "Coaching is difficult, doesn't work, and I don't have time to coach." Since most managers don't know how to coach, they become part of the non-stop, problem-solving legion of frustrated Chief Problem Solvers who habitually do other's work, create dependency, and nourish the seed of mediocrity.

This is Life and Career Changing Advice
I have seen first-hand the transformational impact on individuals and organizations of so much of the advice and techniques Janet & Jason share in this book. Working as part of a team coached by Janice, operating in the ways described, has been a peak of my ~25 year career and the role where I grew the most and the fastest. I can vouch for its ability to be career and life changing if you put it into practice. I highly recommend this book.

Best leadership advice you will ever read
The techniques and way of life described in this book form a set of super powers anyone can master. Don't be fooled by their apparent simplicity. Teams and individuals embracing the method will transform their execution and inspire others for the best. I'm often astonished by the difference between how little these tools are known compared to how impactful they can be. After reading this book and practicing for a few years, you'll be able to facilitate most of the trickiest interpersonal situations in your life whether it's at home or at work.
Bonus: Janice's audiobook delivery is flawless and will allow you to listen at accelerated speed comfortably ❤️

Excellent book empowering practical leadership and problem solving
Janice narrates the lessons she and her husband Jason have learned by embracing the humble, inclusive, persistent, and passion driven leadership while showing that this is the type of leadership needed to meet and overcome the complex and every changing environment of change. Her reading is easy to listen to and understand on any speed, as I listed at x1, x1.5, and x2 speeds and also re-listened to several sections with the pdf compliment to see what she mentioned.
Highly recommended!

A Must-Read for Aspiring Leaders!
In "Farther, Faster, and Far Less Drama," Janice effortlessly unfolds complex leadership dynamics into a digestible narrative. She bridges the gap between the roles of a facilitator and product manager, and through her profound understanding, we find ourselves deeply connected with her message.
Janice introduces more than a dozen methodologies, Some are new and immediately go into the toolbox, while others are presented with a fresh perspective and in an easily consumable structure. Her reasoning brings a new shine to familiar practices, making the familiar extraordinary. Standout concepts like "EOF" are crystallized into powerful, teachable methods. These insights serve as transformative tools, elevating our approach to leadership. When you provide a tool to facilitators and explain both the "how" and "why", it really elevates their approach.
Her book goes beyond presenting knowledge—it imparts wisdom and empowers us to facilitate and inspire better. Her innovative approach to transitioning from present states to future states sets a new paradigm in effective leadership language.
"Farther, Faster, and Far Less Drama" is a transformative journey that reshapes how we perceive and enact leadership. I found myself planning a second listen to delve deeper into the wisdom Janice offers. This book is an essential read for both seasoned and emerging leaders. Janice has delivered a work that leaves you eagerly awaiting her next release. A truly exceptional piece, it warrants a spot on every leader's bookshelf.

Good for modern leadership
The challenges of modern life leadership is not about what to do, but what not to do. This is a distracting world and this book gives a manual of keeping focus in a messy landscape
