About this listen

“If knowledge were all it took, we’d all be incredible managers, teachers, parents, and performers. But obviously we’re not. The biggest obstacle in performance isn’t not knowing what to do; it’s not doing what we know.”

Most people who want to get better—at hitting golf shots, negotiating with clients, delivering presentations, or any other field of endeavor—seek out new information. They read a book, take a class, hire an expert tutor. But as Alan Fine has learned from many years of coaching athletes and businesspeople, this “outside-in” approach often doesn’t produce the results people want. More information becomes a distraction rather than a solution, and high performance remains elusive. Fortunately, there’s a better way.

Fine has developed and honed a unique “inside-out” approach to performance improvement. In this audiobook he explains how to remove the obstacles that get in the way of applying the skills and knowledge we already have. The key is unlocking what he calls Faith, Fire, and Focus: confidence in our ability, high-energy and passion, and focused attention on the things that really matter. This ideal state can be summoned quickly through a simple four-step process, which Fine has taught to top CEOs and front-line employees, world-class pro athletes and struggling weekend golfers, to musicians, teachers, and people in fields he knew nothing about. No matter who you are or what you do, this audiobook will help you get better.

Valuable Core life lessons

The concept of interference and faith fire and focus are essential life lessons for anybody. After reading the book I immediately shared the ideas and everyone had a profound experience with it. A lot of books teach that we are all capable. Very few seem to give a straightforward approach to unlocking that capability. Thank you Alan Fine for this important work.

High recommend for anyone who leads or influences others and anyone who is a coach by profession. This book gets to the heart of the decision making process and can be used for both personal or professional settings.

Great process and tools. Documents required

The processes and tools described sound good and in line with many emotional intelligence programs but this is far more focused. However, in my opinion, to make best use of the tools documents or worksheets available on the website is required.

Best leadership book ever

This book is brilliant and life-changing! And the audiobook is actually better than the book because all the many dialogues are acted out. So very grateful for this phenomenal resource!

limited

This book offers some practical advice, suggesting some rather mechanical ways to approach situations, but does so without much inspiration. The best point made actually comes at the beginning of the book---that we often need to get out the the way of ourselves to achieve our best.

Not great

30 minutes of good ideas, followed by 4 hours of rambeling. Read the back cover and save yourself the time.
